Briefs
Tighty-whities are symbols of our youth, and sporting them as an adult says that you may not be ready to grow up. As youngsters, most of us grew up wearing short-shorts, but as adults, we may not be ready to get rid of them so quickly.
It is believed that this man is not ready to forget his inner child, and settling down and getting serious are two things that usually aren't at the top of his to do list.
Personal experience dictates that briefs are losing their place amongst the underwear elite. With the advent of boxer-briefs and the like, the popularity is decreasing. They are less comfortable than their brethren, and are prone to wedgies (either the socially induced or self-inflicted kind).
However, briefs still offer the consumer some advantages. They offer much more support in the nether region, which is beneficial in sporting events (ever try running in boxers? Ouch!). This fits into the profile of the male brief-bearer because of his hesitance to grow up. Playing football with the boys is still a recurring obsession with him, and believe me, he'll appreciate the extra prop for his package.
Boxers
These are probably the most conservative style of sous-vêtements on the market. The boxer-man is usually a proponent of tradition, solid and making the transformation to manhood, but still doesn't necessarily mean he is a man of drab. Boxers come in a variety of styles, colors and patterns that give the boxer its own personality (I suggest staying away from the boxers that point to the promised land with an arrow if you want to be taken seriously).
Women like boxers because of their mystery factor. All other undergarments are tighter and more revealing of what lurks between your legs. And you know how women love surprises!
Nevertheless, at the risk of repeating myself, I can't stress enough the importance of losing the boxers when going out to play. I made the mistake of playing soccer in boxers. The end result was a voice that could have doubled for Britney Spears.
Loose-fitted boxers don't provide the support needed. Have you ever seen that device on the top of people's desks where there are a few balls aligned in a row, and if you pull one back and let it go, the others keep bouncing off each other... well, imagine that happening between your legs.
Boxer-briefs
The most popular of all undies out there, the boxer-brief has become THE underwear of choice. It's a combination of the best of both predecessors, offering the comfort and loose feel of the boxer, while providing some support with their design.
Men who choose the B-B's are athletic in nature (if you have skinny legs, boxer-briefs turn into boxers, nice quadriceps are required). They like working out and/or exercising. They usually pay extra attention to themselves.
Women go crazy for those Calvin Klein ads sporting the washboard abs and bulging quadriceps, and the underwear is part of the reason (although less of a reason than I choose to believe). They flatter a muscular physique, and show off your assets to the female market.
Bikini
The eensie-weensie, teeny-weeny bikini undies are gaining in prevalence simply because of the fashion trends of today. Modern clothing styles are tighter, and some men want to keep their panty lines hidden as well, just like w...
