Adoption of children from the third world countries is getting more popular by day. People from USA and other richer countries adopt children from Africa, Malaysia or other Asian countries trying to help them. Pop and movie stars now do that a lot too. Many celebrities have been adopted: Faith Hill, Eleanor Roosevelt or Malcolm X. Many of them adopt children as well: Madona, Angelina Jolie, Meg Ryan, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. However, is this really a good thing to do? Let us look into it in this article.
There are around 50 million orphans in Africa and UN has calculated that another 18 million are going to become orphans because of children parents dieing of AIDS until the year 2010. These numbers are scary.Do not forget that the wars in Africa take place in almost every country.
Therefore leaving more and more children without a shelter and parental care. The nature is also not very generous to people living in Africa. The lands are infertile, shortage of food and water causes constant malnutrition. Millions die from that. UN, various charity organizations and governments of many countries are trying to help African countries with money, humanitarian help, sending in teachers, negotiators, engineers and other specialists to help to make people lives easier. Nonetheless, there is always a shortage of almost everything in regions as Africa. Actually, I do not refer to Africa alone. There are many places in the world where the civilization is not developed enough for people to live the lives with little effort.
There are many people in the world, who want to make a difference, at least a little. Therefore, they choose to help a child, an orphan from the country where he or she has absolutely no future to grow up in the society as a valuable member. One of the ways is adoption. Some countries do not allow the adoption of children for the foreigners. I believe everybody has already heard or read about the problems that a pop singer Madona had trying to adopt a boy from Malawi. For those who did not, the story is that she tried to adopt a child from the country in which the adoption for the foreigners is forbidden. Therefore, she got into trouble and the center of the attention in the whole world. However, let us come to this a little bit latter.
Is it a good decision to adopt a child from a third world country? Well I can’t decide that, there is always circumstances, which define the situation. Sometimes there is a better way to help them. For example, you can donate money for the charity organizations, which take care of the children in a certain region. Your money could make a huge difference in the way of living there. In this way, a child can stay in its native environment, where he or she would feel more comfortable. If you want to adopt an infant, I believe there would be not much of the difference. However, always remember that a child is a huge responsibility and please consider that let us say in Finland a black child would be in the center of attention and might feel uncomfortable.
Now let us talk about the pop or movie stars adopting children from foreign countries. I see no reason why would we disagree with that. There is nothing wrong with that, ...
