Recently we had a very interesting new star in our small country. He has no voice, no good look and sings terrible. However, he has became a star. So bright that probably more people know his name than our presidents.. Could anyone please explain me this phenomenon?

Bach to main theme. Can you become a famous singer without good looking, or can a very pretty peson be a singer without a very good vocal?

Music is an art, But is also an industry. Editors and distrubutors are usually not musicians, they either judge your full style and see it as a good money incoming as common people will do, or, if you want to be a star in 1 country you only need to pay them all the expensives plus the profits.

Let's say:
A normal album production with 10 tracks - 5000$
A NICE quality video clip to sell the image- 5000$
30000 copies to become a gold record (you can pay more to become platinum but gold should be enough) - 150000$ (5$ each since they sell them to the stores about half the price)
The editor will take care of the rest, getting you live shows and advertisement along with other artists. They will also take a big % of the money that TV pays you and live shows that you get.

You pay somthing around this round numbers, and you can be famous in one country being ugly, styleless and singing voiceless.

If that's not the case there, then it's probably a trade of favors heh.
(I've seen things has, don't tell my wife what you know, and i'll get you a record, wich is a very depreciated move in any kind of industry/business)
