I am still here

TFP= time for prints, TFCD = time for CD
you agrree with a photographer whitout a model to model for him in exchange of some photos for your portfolio,he or she will handle you back some prints or a CD with photos and he can use the photos in his her port

And just to add: - TFP/TFCD means that no money is exchanged between the photographer and model.
:dunno:

i wish they did more of that in Africa, it would do us some good.

they are so used to grabbing money here! it's annoying!:saint:

Well in the UK you often get photographers complaining that TFP/TFCD is ruining their income. Personally I approve of shoots for mutual benefit :)

We've been doing a limited number of TFP's recently. Our website has lots of info about TFP shoots if you follow the link from my profile.

Remember, Catherina, even though it is trade with no money exchanging hands, you need to sign a model release spelling out both your rights and the photographer's rights to use the images. Between the two of you, negotiate the limitations you wish to put on the circulation/sale of the images.

In most places, even though the photographer did not pay cash for the images, the copyright belongs to the photographer.

For instance: You could make a trade for CD arrangement, he shoots, gives you 10 to 15 images for your port and keep everything he shot for his portfolio and hopefully for sale. You can require a percentage of any future sales of you image. Then it is up to the honor system to kick in or you to see yourself published someplace and wonder where your money is.

Don't worry. Most photographer's are honest. They will let you know your image has been sold provided there is still a way to get in contact with you.

Correct me if I am wrong but in EVERY case, the copyright belongs to the photographer. The only exception there would be is if the photographer signed over the copyright to someone and that SHOULD only happen with a good deal of money changing hands!

Your not wrong about the rights remaining with the photographer. However don't get so hung up on this that you miss the bigger picture ;) When I look at this site, and others a great deal of the portfolio's have been taken using consumer equipment with wide angle lenses, poor lighting, untidy backgrounds, flash giving redeye, etc. I work casting talent for television and film, I am looking for new faces but skip past so many because no trouble has been taken to present themselves. If I were trying to get myself established in this industry with little cash I'd welcome TFP even with some limited risk of being ripped off. Hay even if someone dishonest publishes your pictures it may put you on the map rather than you remaining unknown forever. My advise would be to do a little research on the photographer, carefully read any release before signing it (its surprising how many people don't) and maybe take a friend as a chaperone.

CreativeStudio57 has the right end of the stick :)

TFP is a great way to do things if you both benefit. It can be a wonderful way to build a portfolio for new models and a way for more experienced models to get specific image types they like.

If you have concerns about the useage rights, etc. then there is a simple solution. Pay the photographer :)
