????? When Auditioning Or Going To A Casting Call.... Total results: 13 Pages: 1 [ 1] |

ID: 190573 Posts: 126 | Date: 2007-05-11 10:51 are you more likely to show up, as yourself, bare faced, jeans and a t-shirt
(you get what I mean)... or show up "in character" of what they're looking for
(or think they're looking for)???
Granted, going to a Calvin Klein model call would require a pretty basic slate,
but if it were Westwood... would you doll it up a bit? Should you doll it up a
bit?
Is it mainly just having a knowledge of the designer / film maker / artist that
would dictate this?
Personally, I went to one casting call, for a film that needed a boy who could
pull off looking like a girl, when bent over the hood of a car. Meaning... you
gotta have nice legs....
I shaved 'em down that morning, tossed on a plaid school girl skirt, a leopard
sleeveless top, some combat boots, left the shaved head and stubbly face alone,
went downtown to the call, and got the part. When I showed up for the actual
filming, the costume for my character was basically the outfit I had worn to the
call.
I took a big chance going dressed like that.... not just with the casting, but
just going into downtown in the middle of the day, in boy drag, but it paid off.
Would I have gotten the part if I had shown up in jeans, t-shirt, and ball cap?
Maybe, but I think being in the character really helped them to see me AS the
character.
So, what do you do? In or out of character? If you don't have it, fake it. If you can't fake it, buy it! |

I think you should open up this topic in general modeling discussions. If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try! |

better, that way. sexy |

| Date: 2007-05-13 11:54 I think if not in character, then something neutral which shows what they need.
Eg, using your experience, either as you showed up, or else in shorts to show
off the legs - obviously shaved. |

character.
it amkes them see that you are serious and ready to work. why the name... Ant
Nee?
sounds funny...
but makes one curious to see your portfolio... |

I am actually pondering the same topic for an audition I have tomorrow.
I think that I will go for a mixture between the character's style and slightly
more formal. However the character I'm going for won't involve such extreme
dressing up!!! I agree that if you dress up and make the effort, it makes them
see that you are serious about going for the part, and obviously that you
wouldn't have an issue looking like a girl.
However I'd imagine that casting directors can also see beyond clothes to your
acting skills? |

but what dressing up for the part does is that it gives you a head start,
casting directors want to see you and know if you're up to the task.
makes everyone look at you and say "hey! she came to take it!" |

Daphne.... My name's Anthony, but when I was a kid I pronounced it Antnee....
and Europeans pronounce it Antony..... so I go by the name Ant. Ant Nee seems to
work. ( I could still be going by my former name.... Fairy X..... like Malcolm,
only queer.)
and since we're on the topic of "in character"..... it's time for me to put on
my plaid shirt and cowboy hat.... I got some farming to do. (Yes, when not
trying to look pretty and/or make others look pretty, I'm up to my eyeballs in
chicken coops, eggs, donkey stables, and ditch digging.)If you don't have it, fake it. If you can't fake it, buy it! |

| Date: 2007-05-28 09:36 I think that usually they would rather have you as a blank slate so they can see
what you really look like & how they can work with you, but if it's something
like 'a boy who can pull off a girl when bent over the hood of a car' well then
it's different because how are they supposed to know if you can pull it off if
they can't see you have nice legs? |

Lolo..... How did the audition go?
Hi Anthony ( )
I was nervous as hell.
I had to do a monologue, cold reading, and then I had to sing - which I didn't
expect. I was so nervous, particularly for the monoluge (as that was the first
thing), and I couldn't even speak properly. However it was my first audition and
I was so proud of myself for surviving it - it's really something I wouldn't
have been able to do a year ago.
BUT I got a call back for a second audition! Wow! So I guess I wasn't as bad as
I thought! (Or maybe they were just really desperate, lol). |

Congrats!
and hey, even if it is desperation, it'll pay the bills
So, did you go to it "blank canvas" or "in character"?If you don't have it, fake it. If you can't fake it, buy it! |
