Why Do Not Many Models Reply To Genuine Photoshoot Inquiries?

hello all

i decided to search the jurgita model base for precise requests to about two dozen models for photoshoot possibilities--in some cases indicating exact dates. but the number of response from models has been very sparse, and the few who reply often do not follow-up.

in all my work i have found amateur models do the best work for me--especially in terms of spontaneousness and natural posing. some of the pro models i have worked with had already lost these abilitites.

i do understand that for many jurgita is a friend-making and blogging site--but i also notice a lot of sincere queries about modeling issues.

perhaps someone else can tell me how successful they have in making appointments with newer models on jurgita.

I offer them money. Sometimes a trip to the tropics.

Seems to work for me. Never had a no yet.

hi carib,

thanks for the response. a 'no' would not bother me at all. it is the lack of response that seems curious--given the apparently stated desire to work. i have never engaged anyone without some preamble. so, you and i have quite different working methods, i take it.

I have noticed the same, I think its more that they are inactive though and not down to you.
Otherwise some models are putting in the wrong things in there portfolio, so when you offer that work they dont want it even though they have it selected
Howdy.I'm a 18 year old half asian from Ireland who really would love to get with an agency who can get her exposure or anything please look at my profile and get back to me :D

hi cindy,
thanks for your rsponse--i am getting the same sense as well. btw, i like very much your active and interested participation in these forum discussions. cheers,

There are a good percentage of models who post themselves on various modellings sites but fail to keep upto date with all of them. Consequently, they rarely check their messages. So sometimes you get no response at all. Unfortunately, there are also models (not the majority) who agree to every offer and every date and then wait until the last minute to pick the best one - their preferred method of turning photographers down seems to be just ending all communication.

While I have never not gotten a response, I have a couple theories. Like Cindy and Simon infer, there are people who sign up and either never come back or are semi-active in maintaining their port. Others might actually be very disorganized, get a lot of inquiries, and in classic bi-polar behavior, put aside responses until later because it takes time away from something they want to do right there and then. And we all know about procrastination...unless something bites you, you never remember to go back and get it done. Then there are the lazy people who just cannot get their butt up and respond in a timely manner. Ther also may be a percentage who are scared witless by the fact that they got a nibble. "Now what do I do?" rumbles through their frigthened rabbit brains.

I believe that it is more than just a money offer that keeps me being replied to. I vette people in advance before making an offer. Just as a model is going to check me out and do due diligence research on me, I tend to gather as much background info on the model as possible. Hey, I'm spending a bit of advance money on a photoshoot and model, I would prefer it not to be a gamble. I check things out first. Other than a background check and silent background inquiries into a model, I first check the model's level of activity on a site. Some modelling sites will let you see how often a model checks in. That's a big clue to seriousness. Activity on forums and blogs and posts of pictures helps as well. Since I cannot call a model in for a sit down audition, a constant variety of photos from jobs done helps me see a lot more. I also will do a Friends Request. A response to that tells me that they are alive and kicking and also that they find me a possible prospect for work.

Unless your work is super horrible or your antiperspirant has failed, I do not think you should take a non-response as a slight. Look at it as those models, in their ignorance or rudeness or laziness are missing out on just one more opportunity that could help further their career.

I do my best to reply to offers, I can't stand to be rude especially not when it could mean losing a possibility to work. If there's a reason that I don't reply within 2 days, I explain and apologise to the person making the offer. If I decide to back out I make sure to say so as nicely as possible and as transparently as possible.

The one offer that I might have replied quite late to was made on my profile page rather than as a private message, and since I check my control panel rather than my profile I didn't see it right away. What is particularly annoying is that comments left on the profile page don't register a time and date, so I have no way of knowing exactly when the message was left. :dunno: I did send the photographer a message expressing interest and apologising if I was replying late, but for all my politeness he didn't reply, so I suppose the problem runs both ways. It's a pity that you have such a lack of response, it doesn't say much about the models which is a shame seeing that the purpose of this site is to help in building contacts and getting exposure.

thanks folks for responses and explanations. i think the business about body odour and 'super horrible' work is neither called for nor expected. on the whole the situation is explainable but not healthy if folks is hoping to have a modeling experience, less so if one is looking to become a pro.

having always been a non-commercial professional--my work is bought by and exhibited by galleries, museums, universities and art colleges, but i will not do weddings, advt. shoots or portraits for money--my need is primarily for enthusiastic new comers whose freshness has not erased by too much runway or advt work. this is my experience with having hired through some 'prestigious' agencies. also, i do not believe in paying folks who live off the talents of others.

the difficulty i have pointed out with non-responsive 'models' is NOT universal. some indeed are very prompt and courteous.

at any rate, my problem also arises mainly in the context of foreign models. at home i have only limited use for jurgita or other similar model sites.

Geez! A guy can't have any fun any more! Maybe I need to start putting an 'lol' after my comments. I cannot smell you from here and no, your work is not horrible. Quite the opposite in fact!

hey carib, i am happy to admit--with some shame--that my sense of fun did get lost in the woods for a bit there. your point is well taken--and appreciated. cheers and best.

thanks carib--you are sorta ok as we say up in the cold and friendly (how else can one survive in the cold?) north when passing around the yukon jack. come over try some--fire in the belly. howabout this human toe--ingredient of the in/famous 'sour toe cocktail' in dawson city in yukon!

and you dear daphne, i have looked at your profile a number of times. you are very pretty, and have a good head on your shoulder. i would ask for you any day if i am in ghana--which i much hope to be. remember though i do nudes--not everyone's cup of tea, shall we say. write me directly if you like. it will be good to chat with you. and all good wishes--always.

I think a lot of girls live in a dream world hoping that one or other big advertising company/magazine or whatever will see their photo's that they have posted in their profile and will offer them a big contract, they tend to shy away from regular photo shoots. But looking around you will also find many girls that is willing to do normal shoots and understand how the system works.
Then there is of course the group that just surfs the internet and seems to find it exiting just to post their photo onto a "Model" website. Most of these can be easily recognised as they are normally taken with a web cam or a cellphone camera held at arms length. Most of these girls only use this site to play on and you will find very few of them serious. The underage ones will most likely be on this site without their parents knowledge anyway.
There is so many others I can carry on and on. But search and you will also find very good models on this site. Nothing is ever easy.

Hey Sam. I decided to quote this section because perhaps some of the models you have contacted dont respond as they do not wish to do nude photo shoots. Ive noticed that a lot of the ameteur models on this sites simply click everything as to what they will do photo shoot wise in hopes to get some kind of work. Of course this isnt the best approach and it would be more respectful of them to contact you with a no.

I am sure like Cindy said there are also alot of models on here that are not very active on the site and do not check their mailbox often:dunno: just a thought. :)

P.s. it is looking like i will hopefully be returning to the Toronto area in the fall. I will email you with the details once i get everything straightened out :)

We have a local fruit called Stinking Toe or Nigger Toe but it doesn't look like a toe. It smells like unwashed feet. Some of the people from other islands eat it calling it a delicacy. I have smelled it cooking and, well, let's say that McDonald's got my business that night. People who eat it say it tastes very good. Just have Listerine handy.

You need to come down and visit St. Thomas. You can stay by my place. Be warned, though. The local models won't do topless, nude or even wear a thong. As far as fire in the belly...we invented rum. My cousins rum factory next door in Tortola puts out a 151 proof cane rum that is illegal to bring into the U.S. Fire hazard. Serious. Coast Guard and FAA have banned it so we have to smuggle it over here in water jugs.

Between you and I maybe we can find a paying client to make it worthwhile to fly you in and half a dozen ladies to do a mass shoot tropical style. Think its a possibility?

Meanwhile, I will be in New Hampshire in mid June. How far away in Canada are you from there? An easy drive or not? I'll take you up on that Yukon Jack and toast all models who don't reply to job offers.

well as one of the aspiring models on here, sometimes its hard to find someone who is not a FREAK, if you know what im mean. its hard to tell if that 30 year old guy is just making up all this photo shoot stuff. thats how i feel, i get 40 year old men saying they want to get to know me intimatley and set up a photoshoot.

know you INTIMATELY?

when did that become a basis for setting up a photoshot?

Justine, they just wan to go inbetween your legs:cantlook:. Definately a no-no-ni-ni!

why should a photographer know me intimately for a job, very...:endecided: very...:endecided: u know:endecided:... cunning.:)
