i shoot a wide variety of images, as some i load with the posts will have shown.
but when i engage models i shoot art-nudes alongwith portraits and fashion.
that's the only way i shoot now WITH FOLKS WHO LABEL THEMSELVES AS MODELS OR
POTENTIAL MODELS. of course, that does not include minors! (if this is a
question with a personal angle, daphne, write me directly: photostyle at
photostyle dot ca)
here's is a photo of a non-model friend from the high arctic, setting out on his
very first seal hunt on frozen seas--hope you you enjoy seeing it.

depends on the women - if she is into that. |

hi angel,
i have no idea what a 'dc' is. but if you were not entirely put off by a piece
or two, i will say you are improving. you may recall that i am not an american
and do not believe in the myth of pure choice--esp in a country where one
political ideology parades under two party names and holds mock elections in
which folks exercise individual choice.
good luck.

ID: 182744 Posts: 1793 | Date: 2007-05-30 15:23 I can almost totally agree with Angel on finding nudes that can really be
considered art.
Now, this is not a slight against Photostyle's work, heck I have even shot nudes
and I see nothing wrong with Photostyle's work and think it is very good.
My personal quirk is that in anything, I rarely find good art. Art yes.
Outstandingly surpassing art, no. It frustrates me, it does. I see nudes and
nudes people call art nude, and for the life of me I cannot fathom how the model
being nude made it a better piece than if the model had been clothed. The nudity
did not make it art!
I tend to look at all nudes as having a sensuous rather than an aesthetic
purpose. The images either evoke lust or curiosity but never the warm, soothing
and enveloping feeling that master artwork does for me. I have never actually
seen a nude where I have had to suddenly stop and exclaim out loud "My God,
that's good!" or stop and stare in jaw-dropping awe.
I am not saying it is impossible. I really do think it is possible and I search
for it. Maybe one day I will get good enough that I can produce a nude that I
and others not fond of the medium can see as art and even ground breaking art.
But don't bet on it. Since I do not know what such art would consist of, there
is no way I can practice it to get good enough to produce it. And if I don't
think something will turn out well, I tend not to do it. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

not true that i am totally ignorant of 'dc'--most of my equipment require that
sort of power supply. using a converter does not, however, convert me.
as for minnesotans, i remember their chief venturi getting nicely wallopped a
number of times on this side of the border. actually, no minnesotans in that
province, hardly any. mostly they are anglos, norwegians and the like. the injun
head bounty took care of the minnesotans--unless they slipped north across the
border. another 'underground' railroad, one might say.
thanks a million for inviting me to shoot at your pad--would love to, but will
aslso wait till you folks achieve freedom. same reason, i have never stepped on
hawaii, nor will i till the bright yellow flag flies again. (i travel to
australia, nz, always via japan/korea/singapore/bangkok.)
as for 'art', it is a problematic tag used by the modeling industry. i would
simply call it nude photography. nor do i understand 'adult' as used on this
site. by the way, if keeping a faux-fur boa keeps nudes within the limits of
legitimate 'art', so be it for those who think so. my photos are shown at,
bought by, and collected by juried art places. therefore the term might apply.
but it hardly necessary to apply some impossible idealist and purely
impressionistic standard to determine 'art', when one refuses to use similar
tests for many other concepts: photographer, model, actor, editor, so on and so
forth. don't know why only one exception has to be made.

Funny thing is, DC is supposed to be a more efficient and controlable form.
Guess we got it wrong...except that DC kills.
As for the Minnesota thing...don't I recall a president sending in the boy
scouts to back them up on their incrusions? Seems it was overkill. Should have
sent the cub scouts instead.
Oh, don't worry about us being under the U.S. flag. We tend to ignore it except
when they send money our way. Good old U.S. dollar, but America needs us more
than we need them so...
Give me your tired, your rich,
Your snow huddled masses yearning to breathe the sea,
The wretched refuse of your frozen shore.
Send these, the vacationers, blizzard-tost to me,
I sell them duty-free beside the golden door!"
The Feds come down to straighten us out, we give them rum-punch, take them to
the beach and send them home drunk and sun burned. We run ting! They often get
pissed that half of us saunter over to Tortola and vote in U.K. elections even
though we vote U.S. as well.
The U.S. didn't take or capture us, they paid Denmark good solid gold for
us...more per acre than any other land purchase in U.S. history. All to stop a
few measley Germans from reaching the East Coast. I guess they had enough
already in Wisconsin and Minnessota. Didn't stop the Canadians, though. The V.I.
has a decent-sized problem with illegal Canadian immigrants. Texas and
California get Mexicans. We get Canadians. What a gyp!
And what was this? Part of Minnessota was really in Canada all these years? Gee,
is it so bad up there that they successfully seceeded to the U.S. for most of a
century?
I don't understand the designation of "adult" for straight nudes either. It
certainly is not a legal term. And why is it OK for children to view art nudes
but not magazine nudes? Again, that is a moral designation, not a legal one. I
don't know about Canada, but noting in U.S. law says a child cannot view a
simple, non-sexual nude. Is that why it is called art? To separate porn and
sexual activity from other nudes? In the U.S. our first amendment rights cover
freedom of expression and extends to art. So...why are pornography or sex acts
not considered art? We call love-making something beautiful, right?
Oh, wait! In the U.S. sex acts ARE considered art protected by freedom of
speech! Two years ago, small mid-west town closed down a strip club. Passed an
ordinance making it illegal. Owner took it to the state Supreme Court. The court
ruled that stripping is an artistic expression, protected by the constitution
and overturned the town ordinance! Whoa! And Oregon as a state followed suit,
mirroring the ruling!
An artist is someone who creates art. It is art because an artist says it is! It
was the artist's intention t create art whether or not anyone else thinks it is
good art. I say it is art, therefore it is! And copyright law says it is art too
by the mere fact that I made it.
Hmmm...some people have made an artform out of rudeness. So...if a model does
not respond to your inquiry, rudely not answering...guess what? She made art!!!

God, don't you just love circuitous arguments! Never argue religion, politics or
art at dinner or in polite company! Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

this 'course' on sex you have going in vd--sorry, vi--is free for the primary
level--huh? and the then you charge--what?--for the 'inter' level of the
'course'--and why? is it because the inter-level-course instructing requires you
to be harder longer? but with the preliminary-levels, whom you discharge, the
'omi-gosh' comes too early?
very instructive--and a bit puzzling. no doubt it is all in the art of it.

Yes, this new course in VD for the modern age...Virtual Delight of course!
One gets what they pay for, don't they? That was a cute little typo you made.
Sort of like the one Christopher Columbus made...another horny old man out to
pasture...sorry, I mean sea...too long. He saw our tropical paradise full to the brim with
beautiful Carib women and immediately thought "Virgin"!
We promptly sought to correct his mistake and have been proving him wrong ever
since.
Yes, this is an entry level course. One gets practical hands-on experience at a
primal level and we have very dedicated teachers that fully immerse themselves
within the subject matter. It is a very hard course and students have
been known to literally scream out loud from the depth and intensity of it.
There is no early discharge allowed. Students have to take it all. It can be gut
wrenching and for some people it is a stretch. There is a swell 9 month
internship afterwards for everyone who comes for lessons. It really is a very
productive experience for all involved. Very Karmic. And unlike other schools
whose population shrinks during the school year, our attendance doubles! Many
even repeat! Again and again.
Lastly, we do field work and go diving where the top students can often see
tantra rays in their slow, leisurely manner of doing things. We even watch the
Sperm Whale migrations and the Hump Backs feeding. This is where the true art is
revealed. We're trying to recruit Photostyle to take the graduation pictures. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

but the island lads and lasses do confuse me--at least by your inconsistent
account of them. they are passionately conjugating boys and gals. but by another
account, again from my good man 'carib', these goodies are too modest to be
photographed even in swimwear--let alone as god made them.
i am easily puzzled when stuff don't add up. mea culpa.

Yes, Photostyle, the Virgin Islands is a congregation of contradictions. Truly,
you have to see and experience it to believe it. Tourists, while enjoying the
islands and the people, are totally befuddled by our rules and traditions. The
islands are very, very, very religious yet most women have children for three,
four or more men. Showing too much skin, even on the beach, is frowned upon, yet
during Carnival, almost anything goes. Male tourists will have rocks thrown at
them for walking down the street with their shirt off and women will be cursed
for showing their bathing suit top (even a one piece) outside of a beach area.
On the beaches, a woman who wears a thong is labelled a slut.
Incongruities? A movie theatre and the grocery store are right next to each
other in the same building. It is OK to go to the grocery store in hair curlers
and "home clothes". Don't dare go next door to the movie theatre dressed
in something less than the best.
We sing about sex and sex antics in all our calypsos and get very creative about
it. At the night time jams which are held in parking lots, the public dancing is
really screwing with your clothes on. We share wifes and girlfriends, husbands
and boyfriends with abandon, but with a code which persons born outside of the
islands cannot fathom, understand or decipher. When is it OK to sleep with your
best friends woman and when is it not? The code tells you, and it is not really
something I know how to describe in words. Oh, you definately don't screw with
his woman in front of his face...unless, of course, he has offered her to
you.
Most owmen live on their own with their kids. Most men shack up either with
their parents or one of several girls, depending upon the night or circumstance.
See a lady you like? Help her with her power bill and you're "in like flynn" as
well say. No, of course you don't just walk up to her with a bundle of cash and
say "here's your power bill, where's my sex". Things are a lot more subtle than
that and unspoken. She must never, ever be led to believe that you believe that
she will sleep with you for money. That is for prostitutes...the street
walkers.
During the day, though, sex talk is a no-no. And showng tons of skin is never,
ever allowed execpt during Carnival.
The social dynamics are much, much more complicated and detailed than I can
express here. As a matter of fact, just what I have written here is enough to
get me ostracised and exiled. Nobody wants to see their social sins and habits
written down.
But the Caribbean did get its sexual reputation for a reason. Those who come
here and expect to see it wild and free on the streets will never experience it.
Those who approach natives as equals, with respect and with a desire to
integrate with the culture, can see us for what we are.
And, yes, Photostyle, I am a professional writer. I started out life as that
being published first in middle school. I have never made a secret of that nor
of the fact that I was drafted into photography. For this site I write in a
rush, so you have yet to see the full scope of my writing abilities or styles. I
do have a professional pen-name/alias because of my heavy involvement in local
and DC politics.
The Virgin Islands is a 'right-to-work' state (those of you truly in the
industry will know what that term means) with a limited population. Most
islanders working at a professional level have to be able to do several jobs at
a highly skilled level in order to provide proper services to industry clients.
So, I write, I draw, I sing, I compose, I photograph, I design and I produce.
You will find that basically true for anyone working locally in the industry.
You learn to multi-task or go bankrupt to someone else who will. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |
