I'm constantly dismayed at some of the photos submitted for review. Is there any way we could reject the photos with a comment as to why we rejected it?

I'm letting stuff through that I wish I could say, "do it over and don't do..." and explain what it is they are doing wrong.

I have to agree with you Charles....the quality of some of the images is just apalling but can we really hold that against someone that doesn't have a good camera and can't find a photographer to do some tfp work with them??like I know there is a reject reason of poor quality but a lot of the time if these people are submitting these images they're the best they have, so I tend to let them through....but even for other reject reasons it would be useful to have a part that we could fill something in to say in a little more detail why it was rejected

I think that for a starting model or photographer we cannot reject because the photos themselves are of a less than perfect (or even poor quality). Sometimes that is the best they have. It is more baffling, however, when absolutely terrible pics are uploaded in a batch with some poor or OK quality ones. In such cases it would be good to be able to advise skipping some of them :)

I have been in politics a long time and before that at a print shop that did a lot of political printing. One thing my bosses in both arenas always said: Don't censor. The people have a right to know how dumb their elected officials are.

I can translate that to this arena. Don't censor. The people have a right to know who produces garbage and who produces roses.

Were this an art gallery or showcase site I would say yes, have some quality standards. But this is a public magazine where recruiting goes on. Photographers need to have thorough insight into the models we are firing and models need to know what a photographer considers to be their showcase pieces. We start filtering and we start getting a false impression of both the people we are hiring and the people doing the hiring.

Jurgita pays the bandwidth so I say, if some pictures bother you, leave the port and go onto another. There are lots of beautiful images on this site.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

Charles I agree with you, it seems to be more a trend between the younger models to just sit in front of their webcam and to take a few images pulling funny faces. Some is definitely not serious about the modeling issue. I have even seen a few profiles more resembling a family album. Not just the models but some photographers included. Talking about photographers, how many profiles do not have any photo's at all, or one photo of the family dog. Not a very good way to advertise your photographic skills(not that I have any, but at least I am trying) Who and what is some of this people??? Do you guys/ladies not sometimes also wonder. Dark thoughts here.
Regards
Deon.

I think everyone but Carib gets what I'm trying to say here.

I'm certainly not thinking of more censorship, but allowing a way of giving some feedback on some of the poor quality photos that we aren't rejecting now because they just do meet the criteria of the site, as well as some of those we do reject for stated reasons.

As moderators we are required to reject low quality, low resolution pictures, those that have copyright issues, pornography, incorrect group or category, naked photos of those underage, etc. Apparently Jurgita does have standards and the moderators have guidelines that are published in the articles section. Those rejection reasons are supposed to be provided to the person submitting the photos.

In the above regard, we are already censoring content on the website, and must do so to be open to the general public of all ages. Sometimes, I suspect, to protect the person from submitting a photo that will end up biting them in the ass. For instance, a 14-year-old who submits a shot of her spread cheeks with a thong while she is posing herself in the "doggie" position. Accept or reject?

Carib offers lots of advice to any questioner. I believe that's a good thing. As best as I can tell, however, the majority of amateurs post their portfolios (or no portfolios at all) without ever participating in the forums. Don't you feel, sometimes, that many of them have potential and all they need is a little shove in the right direction.

A comment box for moderators to use when rejecting, not as a requirement, but available if the moderator feels a need to supplement the posted reason with a question or suggestion.

I obviously err in favor of the submitters because I lose points when I let something through that an administrator doesn't approve of.

Ah, Carib--

Professional photographer, Journalist, Editor, Politician, Raconteur, Philosopher, Sex Therapist, and only 42. Never had an editor who picked or chose who to let shine or wither in the glare of publicity.

We should split a bottle of rum someday, if you drink. Come to think of it, my own alcohol capacity is somewhat diminished due to cutting back to almost zero, so make that a couple of shots <G>.

Being a moderator does not mean an adviser. We allow many photos which are very bad, but its their photos and we may not edit them. If you want to make some feedback for young photographers you can make some topics, write articles and so on, but it would be not logical if you contact each of them with your help.. Sorry, but they usually feel if they already know everything. I think if the person want to improve, he/she will search for help in forums or articles not expecting the help will come itself.

As usual, Rasa, you are quite right. I'll shut my mouth and lock this topic.
