Gotta ask.. how can you have a photography contest. When the photographers have
different equipment and different cameras. Also they would have to shoot the
same thing.
Wouldn't be fair.
I had already started up a photography shoot out. which is similar to the idea
of the contest, different themes, and commentary.
But in my head there cannot be a winner if the cameras and equipment are
different. Yes it involves imagination, but being a photographer or have a hobby
of taking photos they might not have a proper camera, maybe only a point and
shoot one. So automatically the vote goes down from the quality.
Happens all the time. When I used to enter prints in photo contests equipment
used to generate the image was never a factor except for contests sponsored by
companies like Minolta or Pentax or Nikon who held the contests to promote their
equipment.
I once came in second to a lady who made her own camera. It is
about quality and creativity, not about the equipment used. The technical
aspects of photography are more about knowing your equipment, your lens, your
film, print paper, etc. and how best to use them and the effects they create
than the fanciness of the camera.
I was using Minolta's mid-range X7 at the time and got beat by a 60 year-old
with a plyboard box with a strip of film taped inside a hinged opening. Stung,
yes, but taught me a heck of a lot in one day! Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |
