Will Modeling Ever Become More Natural? Total results: 15 Pages: 1 [ 1] |

don't have a picture with their smile in their portfolio? Its so unnatural cause
in real life we are smiling a lot. Depends on the person, but most of us smile
to look more friendly and warm. Why it is not needed for models? Another
question is about skinny models..they are also not very natural, cause there are
so little persons who naturally look like models.. Usually its a diet and so
on.. Its just a discussion..tell me your opinionLove to Love |

to throw. with cultural and societal influences, as well as the cultural
influences in fashion modelling, hardselling and softselling have swapped places
again and again. whilst modelling for apparell, what is the main attraction?
Model or apparell? if the model does smile, what will it do to the atttention of
the picture to the viewer? if you were to look at VOGUE magazines from 10 years
ago, the direction's trend itself was much different from now. it is like
stage/theatrical acting versus screen acting, and modelling stuff with
photography involved belongs to the category of screen acting, where expressions
are much more subtle. this trend will change as long as someone influential in
directions would change it |

| Date: 2007-01-20 13:30 Models don't smile neither on runway, neither in magazines or fashion shoots
because all attention will be only on their face, but not on the clothes or make
up they wear. Models now are an advertisment, they are mannequens for clothes.
It's their work. |

are. If you're advertising simple things such as a perfume and you smile, it
might deviate the atention to the girl as Ksenia said.
Look it at the other side.. A person who doesn't like to smile, and has to pose
for a Dental product. It's an advertisement, and in that case that person will
very likely have to smile and be unnatural.
Same as in music or any other business, most of the times I have to play musics
that I don't like just to win a bigger show, and that's so unnatural
So I belieave the answer is no, as times change.. more unnatural every business
becomes.
My humble opinion ,

| Date: 2007-01-21 10:09 modleing probably would never be natural since technology has taken over, most
people would desire to be more beautiful or look like a fantasy, and with that
desire it won't just be natural |

| Date: 2007-01-21 20:49 Coming from the side of fashion design / manufacturing - If I am selling high
fashion - I do not want my models smiling - I want the attention on the clothes.
When showing ready to wear, sports, or even high value fashion sports, I want
the models smile, as that associates "fun times" with the product I am trying to
gain exposure / sell

look of model. So... that's why I am still here |

Models tend to look more sexier - more desirable w/ no smile |

BTW: You all posted a good roost...
From visiting other models' sites, I found that artistic & fantasy seem to be
ascending the ladder of high operations for sudden impact. As I have had
feedback from Pro Photog's -- So unnatural appeal tends to fascinate naturally
(pardon the pun).
It's pull is more captivating, like art...Is it that every1, from model to
photograher, alike, are searching for their signet impression? Natural, however,
will always have its place to sell in the commercial industry, can't live
without it!
Here's to a 'Glad Wrap' Finale for the 'Plastic' Industry, from what was thrown

with a smile, though, is that it must look natural. A fake smile is worst of
all.***** Spring approaches and soon the fairies will awaken ***** |

say's it depends on the customer and the look that we are trying to achieve. I
posted some shots of myself smiling on this site and came under a whole load of
criticism from another member on, who said that I didn't look like a model
(which of course I'm not ) But seriously, if its commercial then its down to the message
the picture is designed to portray. Otherwise we'd look at the individual and
take the shots that best captured their personality/beauty. We sometimes do TFP
sessions and would produce a range of shots in order to sow the maximum
potential of the model. If she's got a great smile then we'll use it. |

Totally, and its so unatural to fake smile, it must be practiced. A fake smile
is risk taking for most poeple and they just don't feel comfotable with it. For
me, any portfolio shot of me smiling, are with photographers I feel comfortable
with, one who can make me smile naturally. I know you won't always be able to
shoot with a phographer you know, thats why its important to go to that happy
place in you mind when you go for the smile. And practice, practice, practice. |
