| Date: 2007-07-12 05:25 Please note that I'm not suggesting that these people do
anything illegal. If I thought they were, I'd be reporting them to the proper
authorities rather than posting on a forum like this. However, they do exhibit
all the hallmarks of a company which is not there to promote models.
1. They spend far more effort promoting themselves to hopefuls wanting to model
than to companies who might hire models.
2. They charge up-front fees for portfolios and comp cards, rather than putting
them on the models' account and letting them work off the costs through fees
from clients.
3. Out of all of the accounts I've ever heard from girls who've signed up with
them, I've never yet heard of a single modelling assignment.
As I say, what they're doing isn't illegal, but from the evidence which I've
seen it isn't a modelling agency either. Does anyone have any counter-evidence
about them which might change my mind? |

everything else companies seem to find ways around legislation put in place to
prevent exploitation of people. The best way the photogsaphic modelling
community can act is by drawing mutual attention to possible scam sites in the
way that you have Rick. I hope it prevents would be models wasting theirn time
and money. If a photographer thinks a model is serious and has the attributes
they want there appears little reason to charge for a preliminary portfolio. A
number of companies have followed this route and come unstuck often to the
detriment of their models. |

| Date: 2007-07-14 18:42 The Conduct of Employment Agencies and Employment Businesses
Regulations 2003 outlawed the practice of agencies charging up-front
registration fees, but there are loopholes whereby "agencies" can charge for
certain extra services.
There have been calls by organisations such as Equity and BECTU to remedy this
situation, but with no effect as yet. |
