| Date: 2007-07-29 05:15 Remember that photographers fall into two groups: those who do it just for fun
and those who do it for a living. If you get a price from someone who does it
for a living, that will represent the value which they think they're giving you,
which will include not just the time for the shoot itself but also the time it
takes to produce the pictures from it and print them.
Prices here in the UK go up to about GBP400 - that's around AUD1000 - for a full
day's shoot and a portfolio of top-quality pictures.
At the other end of the spectrum, you have amateurs and hobbyists who do it for
the pleasure of taking pictures and with them you could end up with some very
nice pictures at no cost to you other than your time. In my case I'll often do a
"portfolio starter" shoot with a new model for GBP100 - around AUD240 - which is
a lot cheaper than a professional would charge, but if the model looks like she
has something interesting to offer my portfolio by way of a new look then I'll
sometimes do it at no cost to her as I'll be getting value in other ways.
In any case, of course, you have to do proper research about the photographer to
ensure you'll get pictures of the quality you'd expect, but your parents can
help sort that out.
The other thing I would strongly recommend is that you get them to review your
profile on here, and also make sure that they know what you're doing at all
times and who you're talking to. |

hairdo, shoes, etc. It's good to have photoshoot TFCD/TFP. No need to pay
anything for that shooting session. Depend on the photographer whether they're
interested to do it for you. |

Arrrange a great day and location with a few varied ideas and locations, maybe
outfits too and get mom or someone interested to get some great shots of you!
try that first and see the response, decide which pics you like best! Add them
here!
you can always change them later!
I think at this stage you should not worry yourself with expensive
photo-shoots!
So may aspiring models think they need that from the outset, but hey get
response first and go from there!
Best wishes and good luck from
MIKE! |

A snazzy, expensive portfolio doesn't necessarily make the model. Scouts,
recruiters, industry professionals need to see YOU, not a fancy setting,
background or even professional lighting. I can't count how many times I have
sat casting calls, looked over million dollar portfolios and not found what I'm
looking for. I also can't tell you how many pissed off models have been rejected
and left the office cursing our lack of taste, expertise and lack of common
sense for not looking at their fancy dan port.
K.I.S.S. is a good acronym to remember. It means Keep It Simple, Stupid.
As U.K. said, grab your mom and a few outfits and make a picnic of it. Have fun
and let her snap away. You'll probably get some lovely shots with nice, natural
expressions and attitudes. Don't over pose! That looks cheesy on a young girl.
Just be yourself, forget the camera is there and have fun. (If you have a dog or
cat, get some shots playing with your pet. Also, having fun with your mom or
dad. I wouldn't recommend having other children in the shots. Scouts have poor
eyesight and might end up hiring your classmate instead of you. And, don't
forget to do a series of straight Polaroid shots. Instructions for those are
somewhere on this site.)
At your age, clients want to know that you can be expressive AND follow
instructions AND not get bored with having to hold a pose or expression or to
redo things repeatedly. You are also growing and changing. If you spend tons of
money on a portfolio now, you are going to look very different in 6 months or a
year and have to pay for a portfolio shoot all over again.
When you get some paid shoots or get published, put those in your portfolio and
resume.
Until then, get your parents involved and have fun! Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |
