DAILY WEATHER REPORT

I'm thinking to get more photographers active in the forums and, hopefully, with model responses allow both models and photographers to meet and stay in active contact with each other.

So, my thought is a forum post that people would want to check regularly.

So...how about the daily weather report from your area in pictures!

It doesn't have to be an Ansel Adams style pic, just a (and please forgive me the bad word) snapshot [i]{shudder}[/] of the great outdoors as we buzz about each day. Most togs I know always have a camera with them, so taking the photo won't be a big deal.

This isn't a contest, or a critique forum (notice I didn't place it under photo critique). This is for fun and this is for networking. We don't have to set up fancy lights or take meter readings from 100 feet away or play with photo shop, just snap and upload and let us see the world! Heck, I caved in and bought an Olympus Stylus 760 a few months ago so that I would have something slim and small to keep on me all the time. The quality isn't the world's best, but I've made some sell able images with it and that is what I'll be using for most of my daily shots.

And models...you can post your weather snapshots as well!

So...here's my today's weather shot...not the best of days in the Caribbean, we're in the middle of a mild Tropical wave.

Taken August 8, 2007, 4:59 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time

How's your weather?
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

No takers yet?

Here's my weather shot for the day:

Taken outside my office, 8:27 a.m. Overlooking Charlotte Amalie Harbor, St. Thomas, VI. Hassel Island in background. Sky still a bit overcast from yesterday's tropical wave, but clearing. Slightly breezy.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

Hmmm... I don't understand. What should the models do? Shoot the weather too???

This is a great idea, Karl, for Photographers of all levels to casually show off their stuff.;)
A big thing here, esp. in AZ, is to capture lightning storms:.
National Geographics Style:muscle:
Perhaps there might be a few camera dare devils around just for that sort of thrill seeking adventure, who can lend us some lens & Weather the CRAFT of the "EYE OF THE STORM"

If you have a camera, yes. But the main goal is to participate, encourage photographers to join in, let them know you want to see their part of the world. start a continuing dialoge. Interact. For female models, you want the togs to impress you. Hey, girls are good at getting guys to want to impress them.

Tek has the idea...get a dialog going.

Heck, I've got lightning off shore now. She's inspired me to try a lightning shoot...something I've never done before mainly because our lightning is sheet lightning, not the dramatic fork lightning photographers are so fond off. So...tonight I'll get out the tripod and plastic bags for my equipment and see if I can catch a lightning strike. Sheet lightning tends to be cloud to cloud and I suspect, to catch it, the clouds will have to be many miles away...on the horizon even. It will be a challenge...but I like challenges.

Thanks Tek! I'll make a stab at it and post, whether my shots are good or not!

Who says you can;t teach and old dog new tricks! 25 years and I never tried a lightning shoot! I should kick myself!

Signing....

I've seen fire and I've seen rain
I've seen sunny days that I thought would never end
I've seen lonely times when I could not find a friend
But I always thought that I'd see you again

Alltogether now.

Slight chop in the harbor, mostly sunny, Sahara dust back in the atmosphere.

Charlotte Amalie Harbor, West Indian Company Dock shot from grounds of the Legislature of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas, VI - 1:21 p.m. Atlantic Standard Time.

Grey skies today. Not from cloud cover, but rather from a geological and atmospheric phenomena tens of thousands of years old. Several times a year a huge plume of dust rises from the Sahara desert, crosses the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea and makes it way to the East Coast of the United States where it continually renews and fertilizes the soil.

Similar dust drifts occur in other major deserts of the world and are the number one source of soil restoration and renewal in Europe and Asia.

Because of the Virgin Islands unique positioning on the globe, we can physically see the Saharan dust clouds as they pass by on the way to the United States.

So, ok, was my idea too crazy? Despicable? Or just too much effort for people? Just a snap shot a day. No art or planning needed. Takes 2 secs.

So...am I beating a dead horse here? Advise please.:dunno::dunno::dunno:

Great day today. Quick visit over to St. John, definitely the most unspoiled of the Virgins. 2/3rds National Park, preserved for eternity.

No outdoor picture today. Hurricane on the horizon, wind gusts already exceeding 40 knots. Outer edges of Hurricane Dean already effecting local weather. Visibility under ten miles. Seas at 10 to 14 feet.

The main force of the hurricane will miss St. Thomas with the eye passing well to the south. However, it is a large storm and we will be getting tropical storm force winds from this afternoon through Saturday morning.

Instead of an outdoor picture, a satellite photo of Dean from 9:35 a.m. this morning.

Not going to be on long today as I have certain official responsibilities during storm weather. Power loss is also an issue and, if it goes, I won't have internet until it is restored. Hopefully, not more than a few days.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

And a regional map to help you get your bearings.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

 for the bearings...I hope th storm wont b too severe...n your internet wont take centuries to be restored we will miss you:muscle:
:muscle:

Good luck with Dean. Hopefully you come through unscathed.

The company I work for has their own hurricane site. www [.] sharkoil [.] bm
Bermudians use it to track the Atlantic storms and for tips on being prepared for the big ones.

Thanks Lucia. Thanks Mike.

Came through OK. The eye of the storm stayed well enough south of us that we avoided the worst of it. Had wind gusts up to 70 mph and intermittent rain

Only minor power interruptions. The majority of our buildings can take 175mph sustained winds and 200 mph gusts, but most of the power grid is above ground and unable to be buried through our rock. So, power outages are our main storm damage.

St. Lucia, Martinique, Dominica, Dominican Republic and Jamaica took hard hits and are not as fortified as we are. The first three islands have the advantage of contending with hurricanes almost every year, so bounce back pretty quickly. (Compare with the VI which goes on average 90 years without a direct hit from a hurricane, then has a ten to 12 year super active period.) All the same, we're doing our regular relief and assistance efforts to those islands.

Today's weather picture: Power lines still up. Most trees still have leaves and blossoms. Roads cleared of most debris.
Partly cloudy, 84 degrees, mild wind gust of 15 to 20 mph.

Carib those are such great pictures and I saved some of them to my computer just so I can see them over and over again easily.

My camera was borrowed by my friend and so I can't participate right now. Hopefully he'll return that to me soon. LoL

Thanks, :) even though they are just snap shots. I can send you some real lovely pics if you want.

I hope he gets your camera back to you soon, too. Can;t wait to see pics of your homeland.

Dag snarffle it!

Forget to put one lousy cable back in the camera and can't upload my photo.

Well, at least it is better than in the day when your handy-dandy, trustee-dustee assistant would forget to take the film from the refrigerator and restock the camera bag. Heaven knows how we lived through days like that without going to jail.

Today's weather was mild, light drizzles through the day to keep things cool. About 88f/31.1c again. Pleasant day overall.

This is a view of the front yard of the building I work in, shot from the second floor, sometime this morning.

Currently 84f, 30 c. Partly cloudy. Couple of rain storms this morning, clearing into a nice day.

1:02 p.m. Looking up and out through a local rain forest.
