Looking to purchase a Nikon D200 camera. Does anyone have any experience with this camera?

It's really great camera. I try to take some shots with it and the results are I think very close to film. High quality. But, I think that more than cam are important lens..

no comment d200, i use nikon on my film based cameras. i love nikkor lenses why i shipted to canon in digital is another story.

Canon sensor is large on 5D and 1Ds mkII, of course canon would be better for sensor.

well nikkor lenses are great and their sensors produce better colors than canon, although canon is faster lesser noise and eats less [*Link removed*] nikon's service center and lens prices i cannot endure.

Retouching Inc:

Cannon is a very good choice and when you
have taken
that perfect shot try our Free retouched photo for another level !

I agree with cannon.....and he is still working the room.

You might also want to look into the Fujifilm line, Nikon Bodies but better color

There is a lot of great brands on the market??

I shoot all my photos using my D200. View my photos and see if u like the results.

nice shots, ive heard its fast too...

Just a quick comment on color. Everybody has loyalties, I understand that. But while there are differences between the different lens manufacturers products from Leica to Contax/Yashica/Kyocera/Ziess, Pentax, Olympus, Nikon, Minolta, and Canon; those differences are really quite minute--sometimes merely a matter of individual perception.

In the final analysis, each one's advantages or disadvantages can be overcome or enhanced digitally through the use of color profiles or editing controls. But if you are a purist, try mounting any of those lenses on another's body--you'll find that Canon's EOS mount is the most adaptible to other companies' lenses.
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

i guess your a die hard canon user,

The D200 is a terrific choiceif you want to have a professional camera and a limited budget. You won't find another brand with such a camera for this price! Overall I think the colors are a bit on the red side, but any person can adjust this in Photoshop.

I can recommend the optional battery pack. First, you can use your camera for a longer period without having to change batteries. Second, the grip is very useful when making portraits.

I would most heartily second this observation!

Other than the 2 weeks when I went on holiday and was shooting mostly landscapes and wildlife, my battery grip has not left the camera since I bought it, and I'd had the D100 with grip before that.

What I do miss on the D200's grip is the voice recorder function of the MB-D100, which allowed me to record an annotation beside each picture - something I put to use on a number of occasions when I was shooting similar scenes in different ways.

Back to the D200 itself, though, and I'm loving it!
