Notice how the majority of high fashion models do not pierce their belly button,
as exotic as it may appear on most people who do it, it is considered extra lil'
bulk when doing skin tight clothing for certain fashion, glamour, &
sports/athletic poses.
I s'pose it depends on your profession & the pursuits, thereof.
KARL once made a remark about body piercing & its ability to take away modeling
jobs, & the classification of a tier rating of pay one might encounter as an end
result.--

May make some sad...
But do what you gotta do, cause ultimately this will reflect your attitude in
the modeling that you pursue.
To each their own destiny, & at any time the element of change (either personal
or external circumstances of the model's life) creates the variables or sets
seasons of standards within the expanses of the industry as far as
acceptability. |

for discriminating against holey and decorated people. The flame involved my not
sending altered models to a promotional event for a beer company. She assumed
that the beer company did not want the girls for drawbacks other than the
piercings. However, the beer company had never seen the girls. For a live
promotional event to the general public they specifically asked, sight unseen,
for girls without excessive piercings, no tattoos and no visible scars. They
made their choices from the "clean" models I selected.
For live events with crowds of all types of people, most companies choose the
conservative route. For themed events, a company might desire the flavor of
decorated persons. But when you consider that versatility gets you more
jobs...it is better to add temporary tattoos and paste on jewelry for those gigs
than to try obvious cover-ups for clean-look gigs.
I have never understood, however, why a person who wishes to make a living off
of the beauty of their body would risk invasive procedures like tattoos and
piercings which can infect and scar. And if you are already beautiful, why do
you need a multitude of artificial adornments to attract attention to yourself
or to make you feel good? And from a strictly male perspective, I prefer
Christmas trees only during the holiday season. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

other than earrings,
I have to agree with Carib on that. I do feel it's quite "distracting"
actually.
worse, the tattoos, they're permanent. not many photographers, agencies,or even
magazines are really into that. it's a trend, so unless you're in that "niche"
of piercing and tattoos, you're really limiting yourself if you intend to
model.
Scarring is not pretty. sorry. it sounds a bit harsh. but remember, what's cool
for you today must not be cool tomorrow.
and us, the photographer.. already 2 here... carib and myself, have expressed
this.
well, let's say, i have yet to find a model with piercings that grace the
runway.
designers are quite partial to this too. you're modeling their clothes, they
don't want piercings, etc. to detract from their outfits.
still, it's our personal advice or preference, if you prefer. you provide the character, and i will take care of the rest to capture your persona. |

people double take and drool automatically. She works full time in local retail
but cannot seem to get any full time modeling gigs.
People see her...producers and such that travel here on their vacations...and
have invited her many times to audition. She has talent...can dance, act, sing
and give any mood you want. But has never tied down a good gig or gotten call
backs.
You see, once her work clothes are shed, the tattoos adorning her legs, arms,
back and breasts are exposed. You can virtually see the mental back pedaling of
all these people who were so interested in her.
Boom. Down the drain.
Oh, she gets lots of compliments and conversations from the boy about her tats,
but basically she turned herself into a conversation piece rather than a
keeper.
Hey...in this business if we want to improve on mother nature we hire a good
make up artists, a god designer and a good photographer. The only thing
permanent is what we capture on film. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

further to your last para.
yes, in fact, just recently i actually stumbled on a website of a makeup artist
that advertises just that. she said something like, no tattoos , i can make
tattoos even transform your face just for the photo op. and she even had some
photos in her portfolio to show a girl with a burn scar, tattoo completely over
the body,etc...
that's what a makeup artist is hired for.
the body is sacred, best left untouched.
(OPTIONAL : skip this, if you're anti-religious or just anti-anything.... no
obligation to read this para)
i even think the bible (sorry, not a religious man, but i read lots of good
books) even mentioned this to the definition of disfigurement.
(OPTIONAL para ends here)
beauty should be left untouched. natural beauty is still best... it was in
fashion during the days of Beaton-Avedon etc, it is in fashion ... it will be in
fashion, way after "classic" guys like Carib and I are long gone

copy Carib's last words, as i think that just about sums it up...
Hey...in this business if we want to improve on mother nature we hire a good
make up artists, a god...no, a good designer ...God designed her original body
which
should stay that way...pure untouched ...no disfigurement and a good
photographer. The only thing permanent is what we capture on film.
there Carib, you have the last say, even in my voice ! you provide the character, and i will take care of the rest to capture your persona. |

they are being judged...They are! That's the business, and people and companys
that are ran by people have that right when they are paying the bills.
Speaking of paying bills...Thanks for the announcement...I mean promotion in a
Post...nice touch. Isn't there space for that somewhere else? |

I can relate to that, in that my dad ran fashion stores and worked for a
respected guy in the West end of London who established himself so well in
Fashion and important contacts, however, this guy gor to his station in life at
the age of 50 and really regretted all the tattoos that he had on his arms from
when he was on National Service, trying to be one of the boys in an earlier
life!
In his retirement with his own Fashion Stores, he would not roll up his sleeves
or wear short sleeve shirts in feer of how others would view him!
Think On, those who go for trends in your younger years! You may live to regret
it later! In the UK we are already seeing some embarrasing sites of Granmothers
waiting for their pension cheques in the local post office, showing poor tattoos
on baggy skin and multiple piercings that are just not in-keeping with their age
and look! Younger people are cringing at this, yet as with every younger
generation there is a need to shock or go that step further and not see how that
image relates to them!
Common sense and your chosen direction is really the issue in this topic! If you
wish your direction to be alternative and it fits your current/future lifestyle,
then go with the tats n piercings! If you wish to be viewed seriously Modeling
mainstream, then hey don't go that route!
Common Sense does Prevail! |
