Hi,

Something strikes me as odd on the website of this modelling agency, otherwise I would have already sent them my photos. On their 'become a model' page they stress that if you are not in agreeance to them 'sending your photos to third parties for evaluation of your application' then please don't send any.

I don't know about you guys but I do not want my photos ending up goodness knows where, especially when the agency is based in a country I am not and I would never know if my photos had been used publicly. Does anyone know anything about this agency, what clients they have had, how reputable they are? Anyone here ever worked with them?

Thanks.

Hi all.

The rep who posted the thread here would mean "to work in the asian and european market"

Not that you have to be from there.

I am from Australia, yet have worked in both markets. The asian markets rend to be very "commercial" , although certain niches - Tokyo for example - can handle more extreme fashion types occasionally.

There are a whole mine field of contract issues when going to work for an overseas agency.

Here are a few points to look out for... but by no means is everything you need to know here:

1. What cut will the agency SENDING you there take? What cut will the agecny REPRESENTING you there take. You don't want to get home, to find out you owe the people that sent you a big wad of cash.

2. Make sure they are getting you an appropriate visa. There are scams where girls will be brought to foreign countries and then threatened into "less then desirable" situations - with their passports held at ransom. Remember, you might not speak the language, or even know anyone there, it might be hard to get help if the situation becomes uncomfortable.

3. Do some research on the company that wants to send you overseas, and also the company they want you to work for. If you can, find other models that have worked for them and get there advice.

4. Are they going to guarantee an amount you will bring home? If so - THIS IS THE MINIMUM!!! Anything you earn over that is yours too, so keep a log of earnings and forwarded amounts. Reputable agencies make this easy with receipts for forwards and job sheets for earnings.

5. There will be amounts deducted from this guarantee though - airfare, accommodation, weekly advances (so you can eat - LOL), composite card fees etc.... It's a good idea to have them explain everything, and write it all out, so you know what the minimum terms you are looking at are.

6. IN regards to the above - it has not been uncommon lately to bring people over on "expenses only" contracts. This means that they will cover the airfare and rent etc, and if you don't book jobs, you wont "owe" them anything, although remember... as soon as you start earning money, that is paying of this debt first, and that is after they have their commission deducted...

6. You should not HAVE TO stay in their accommodation. Often it is overpriced. Any model will normally appreciate this. Anyhow, it can be convenient. If you have the time and smarts, see what is available. Check travel guides, online tools, speak to people... you can save a lot of money. If the agency doesn't like this... think about why... are you taking money out of their pockets by not staying in their overpriced pads... YEP.

7. One option can be to do your first month in their apartment, but then find your own while you are there, and move out for the second or third (if you stay on). You can tell the agency you are staying with a friend, or indeed that it's just cheaper. Of course, if by then you can share with another model or a friend... even better.

8. Gyms can be expensive in other countries, as can vitamins etc. If you are worried about your health, maybe consider bringing your sneakers (although you may need a local map so you dont get lost) and go for runs instead of joining a gym. You can see more of the city this way too - just watch out for cars - LOL.

9. What will they expect of you, "appearance wise". A buddy of mine was threatened with being reported to immigration if he didnt "shave his head" for a job. And it was a low paying job. They should be comfortable with your appearance - if they are suggesting now you - "lose some weight" etc... think of how they will be if the market is slow to pick you up. That being said, you do have to trust their opinion on what will work for you in their market, but it's better to have an idea about this before you arrive - rather than being pressured once you are there.

10. You will want to arrive with a solid a book as possible, and your pics being scanned and on a memory stick will make it reall easy for your agent to get things rolling. I don't mean a nice portfolio or course - but the pictures inside. Find out the measurements of their books - you don't want to have to cut your precious photos to size. Print up what is suitable and test your ass off so you can cover the market.

There is so much more to say here. I might copy and past some to a new thread. PLease add to it.

Romeo.
