We've all seen this for days:

>> LOOKING FOR {{DARK BLACK }} AMATER MODELS 15-19, FOR A - - - T F P --- >>PHOTOSHOOT IN WASH DC ---Contac thank you

This appears to be a 19-year-old who has at least one picture in his portfolio with a watermarked "Luna Digital 2004" copyright.

Beside being poorly written, it is completely unprofessional. Can we get rid of the blurb on everyone's profile?
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

Tell the truth, I never even read it because of how convoluted the layout was. And how does a TFP shoot gain such prominence on everyone's profile for so long? Save prime space for prime jobs. Save that space for vetted and verified jobs. Heck, sell it as classified listings, but please, no more 'amater' hour.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

I thought that thing was going to be there forever. I also vote for it's removal as it's unprofessional appearance is a eye sore.

I just took a look.

How can a TFP shoot last for 15 months? I think I will give him a call and ask. Let you know the results.

Well...not the best talker in the world. Seemed to be caught off guard when I asked him about his blog and his services. I am not even certain he remembers placing the blog on Jurgita. Probably has it up all over the internet. I identified myself again and told him that I saw his blog on Jurgita.com and was curious as to the service he was offering.

So...here are the basics he told me in our conversation. You be the judge. I won't try to influence your opinion by telling you I was trying to keep from snickering during the conversation.

................

Q: Your blog on Jurgita says your are offering TFP shoots for 15 months?
A: Uh, the what?

Q: On Jurgita.com you say your are doing TFP shoot for dark models from September 7 to December 30, 2008. 15 months.
A: Oh, yes. I am doing that.

Q: What service do you offer?
A: I help models expand their portfolios with photo shoots. I offers free head shots and help models proceed in modeling.

Q: What do you do with the photos once you take them?
A: I give them to the models and I use them to help promote models.

Q: Do you place models with agencies or help them find jobs?
A: No. But I can send them to placement resources. I use select models in Washington, D.C. I have a website called *******(redacted) where you can select 'models' and meet up with people.

Q: How long have you been doing t his?
A: Three years.

Q: I know Washington, D.C. very well. Where is your office located?
A: I don't have an office. I work on the internet. I rent out space to do photowork.

Q: You mean you rent a studio for your shoots?
A: Well, yes, when I need to. I can send you all the information you need by email. What is your email address? Did you see me on Myspace?

Q: No, I saw your blog on Jurgita.com
A: Ok. What is your email address.

I start to tell him. He interrupts me...I guess he didn't have a pen.

He said: Send me an email at ******(redacted) and then I will have your email address.

Q: Ok. How is business? Are you getting a lot of responses?
A: Yes. Yes. I am doing a lot of stuff.

Q: OK. I will send you that email right now. Thank you for talking.
A; Ok. See you.

.................

There you have it. You be the judge. I will be in DC in a couple of days and I will drop by his "internet" office. In the meantime, when I get his email, I'll keep you apprised of whatever is in there.

Interesting guy.

I believe he is just very, very inexperienced and trying things his own way. Cannot be certain. I will try and meet him while I am in D.C. and see what he is all about.

I got the email and it was an invitation to join a black networking site. On the site there is a section for models and persons in the arts. There, he is making the same offer basically as in Jurgita except that he has a photo meet scheduled on November 30 at 7 p.m. and is seeking no more than 20 models size 4 or 5 (skinny girls) [his words, not mine] and will pay $100 each for the shoot. Location has not been set yet.

Whew. Guy has $2000 to blow on a photoshoot. 7p.m.? A nighttime shoot? Where? And whoa...20 models! Man... had better be a group shot. 20 models photographed individually? Pack a dinner and a sleeping bag, ladies!

He has a couple RSVPs already.

I am getting the gist that he is really trying to pull this off. Motive? I cannot say but man, if on the up and up, he is ambitious in addition to being inexperienced.

Again, you all be the judges. I am not ready yet to label him a scam. I do advise caution, though. Good intentions combined with inexperience can be just as detrimental as a scam.

Still...the open ended casting call on Jurgita needs to be curtailed. Also, why didn;t he offer Jurgita members the $100? What are we? Chumps? We get TFP while he offers money elsewhere? Man up, Mister!

If he is 19, and he has a 2004 copyrighted picture on his profile that would mean he was doing professional work at 16.

What you've described sounds pretty wierd to me.

I still vote for some sort of scam, eventually. On the other hand, certainly sounds as if he has some great goals, I thought he just wanted to meet skinny girls.
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

Wow, maybe he is really really rich and pays anyone to just show up! (As long as they are skinny) Sounds fishy. Just my own opinion. Thanks for looking into this. Your awesome! :muscle:

Charles Griffin:

Well, he says he has been shooting for three years. That would put it at 16. I am not ready to endorse or judge after just one conversation. And yes, Charles, I agree. One cannot have enough experience to be considered a Pro in photography at age 19 or after three years in the profession. I hope you do not mind me saying this, Charles, but you and I are old enough and have been around enough to know that there is a heck of a lot to this field that a teenager just cannot get. And don;t even talk about the personal interaction side! (I won;t go near the raging hormones issue.:shocked:)

I do have a few problems and questions yet and I will call him again. For one, because I did not want to scare him into hanging up on our first talk, I did not ask his real name. Not that we do not see his name anywhere.

Not knowing his name, I could not check for memberships in one of D.C.'s several photographer's organizations. It was after 5 O'clock so I could not call the Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs in Washington D.C.

A check of Basic Business Licenses on their website did not yield me any results under the Business name he is using here, but that may not be significant. I will talk to a human being tomorrow who may be able to cross reference DBA names. Additionally, there are a lot of people doing business in Washington, D.C. who are really in Virginia or Maryland and registered there. And then, since he isn't asking for money, a license might not be needed.

North East D.C. residents are also known for the Hustle. Everyone has an idea that will make them tremendous bucks. Some scrape together the cash to try something, others out and out scam it. Still others find a mix in between. And status is everything. Especially among guys trying to impress women. Charles may be on target with his assessment, but I have a tendency to think innocent until proven guilty. If a scam is glaring me in my face based upon my experience or the obviousness of it, I will not hesitate to point it out and bash the scammer. When something has the possibility of being legitimate but still raises questions like this issue, I will launch and investigation, if I have the time and energy, and also bring to bear the investigatory power of my government position. Yep, if necessary, swing a sledge hammer to kill a mosquito.

I hope I don;t have to do that. A personal meeting would be great since I will be in his area. I can look at his work, talk to other people about him. Look him in the eye. If he is full of bovine excrement, his eyes will tell me. If he starts name-dropping on me who he knows (another common practice in D.C.) I will personally give him the finger!

I do know one thing for certain: He is not comfortable with the photographic medium, especially model interaction, and should in no way shape or form be considered a professional.

His biggest plus right now? His telephone number actually works!!!

So...stay tuned! I should know all by Monday!

Whew! This is annoying interesting:D That damn thing which has been on the pages for months might turn out to be a scam huh

I'll wait to hear how it goes...
