A Good Photo But Bad For The Model

Here's Justn's submission for his profile. While not a bad art shot, Justn is basically a dark blob of an afterthought.
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

Not that it is a great improvement, but this allows a slightly better idea of what Justn looks like

As you said on the first photo he is just to distant and vague and it is not a very good photograph in any sense.
The second photo is a lot better but still you want to promote your features if you are a model and the image of himself is way to small for that with very bad detail.
As said the overall work has a artistic touch to it but will not be very good for displaying your features and promoting yourself as a model.

If that's one of the main shots in his portfolio, i'd agree with Charles and Deon. I'd advice him to change the picture. However, if he has empty slots, that shot would add points.. be it the 1st or 2nd photo, based on my view. That is if.. it was just about submitting photos. If possible, he should make it a tighter cropped image (i'm thinking of maybe that is the exact size of the image.. that make cropping a bad idea).

It is a wonderfully controlled image and packed with emotion that certain people from a certain area would feel. The image would be a look more poignant if we could see the emotional expression of the model to augment the feel that I think the photographer was aiming for if he was making a statement about urban bleakness.

As composed, with the model being almost an after thought, it does not aptly showoff the model's capabilities nor his desirability to someone seeking to hire talent. As presented, any Joe Blow could be the model for that picture.

In selecting an art print for one's portfolio, it needs to show the model clearly and the model's talents. The image does not do that. It particularly fails for the model's purposes because we cannot see how the model's talent in creating emotion or mood adds to the image.

I think Charles' retouch adds significantly to the model's importance to the image, but like Deon said, there isn't much digital information available to work with appropriately.

Good job, Charles' in bringing this up and highlighting the problem area for the model. I hope he picks up on your generous constructive criticism and applies it to his future portfolio submissions.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should :cool:

I think a model should have pictures which more of him/her bcoz th aim is to promote ur features or rather wat u have. Pictures should show u clearly. Such a picture would fit better in a photographers port I'd say
:muscle:

I like the first one better. and yea I agree, that's more like a photo for photographer rather than a model .. :]
* Love the Life* :thumbup:

It looks like a shot that would be used in an advert. Lots of room for text. I do like the model's pose, what you can see of it, but like everybody has already said, not a good shot to put in a portfolio.
