There is no such thing as an amateur that advertises without some background in
their field of endeavor. Amateur means 'for the love of it'. How can one know
the love something without experiencing it...or trying to?
This may relate back to a post I made last week regarding gaining work and
experience in a work that won't give you work and experience without already
having work and experience.
I have never heard of a person advertising to be an illustrative artist without
first trying their hand a painting, even if only for themselves.
The same has to apply to all of the professions participating on this site.
Portfolios are an advertisement. We are telling other people what we are and
what we want to be. A producer cannot legitimately tell the world "I am a
Producer" and not have produced anything. How do we know that they even know the
first step in producing. One would think that 'producer' could practice first
right in his/her own area, putting together small productions, for profit or
not, to gain work credits to list.
Geez...a singer without a demo reel. Can you image what studio would waste time and money
auditioning a singer without first hearing a recording of their voice? How in
the world is a singer going to advertise on the internet without letting us hear
their voice? Ridiculous.
You cannot be an agency wannabee. You either are representing models or you are
not. Good gosh...again like with the producer...get a license, find talent in
your area and sign them up to Jurgita through your agency. Use Jurgita to
advertise your models and agencies and generate business for all. Start acting
like an agency and push those models locally as well.
Actors should have pictures and too, actors can list credits. No movie or TV
gigs yet? Every community I know has as amateur theater company. Get some acting
experience in their. Drama clubs and classes at high schools and colleges. Heck,
start your own acting troupe and gig at malls and parks even if for free. Show
us that you are more than a pretty face with pie in the sky aspirations.
Those of us who have watch Lucia mature and develop as a model know that she
isn't holding still and waiting, hoping that a self-portrait will get her
noticed by the world. She is active and continually improving herself...a real
pleasure to see amid a forest of garbage portfolios that never ever try to
improve upon themselves.
While exposing everyone who can shoot a self portrait an opportunity to expose
themselves is a nice and charitable thing to do, I suspect that the percentages
are not beneficial to the site. A professional agency wading through blurry
nonsense shots is going to lose interest and go somewhere else. This reduces
everyone else's chance of being discovered.
It is time that we start encouraging people...forcefully if necessary to begin
trying to act like a professional. A model who cannot find even a friend or
family member to take shots of them is not demonstrating to me that they have
the confidence to pose in front of my lens, the lens of a stranger. Or...for the
younger models...perhaps their parents don't know so they must do self
portraits? Hmmm.
I'd like to see this site succeed and prosper with a dearth of action and
interest. I believe that Lucia in her wisdom, her dedication to her profession
and conscientious demeanor will bring some well needed fresh blood and new
judgment to moderating and the evolution of this site. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

I work in a modeling agency as well and I would never give our clients list in
public. Most of the clients hire models from different agencies, not from one,
they cannot be listed as your clients if you are not exclusive supplier. Also if
everyone knows your clients every model can go straight to the client without
your agency.
So lets be strict but also lets see points of different sides.Love to Love |
