Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself to the forum, I am a Guatemalan photographer living in the UK, I moved here four years ago and although I am mainly dedicated to my career as a mechanical engineer I have manage to take some time to explore my interest in photography and have shoot a couple of assignments for websites and personal portraits as well as some weddings and music concerts.
I have seen many interesting topics posted in this forum and I hope to be part of them real soon.
Is good to be part of this site and I hope that I will make some friends on here.
Take care all.
Harim

Welcome. And we look forward to your participation and photographs. :)

Thanks for your words Carib, is nice to feel welcomed.

Heather, I have tidy up one of your photos just so you see why I think you should get some new shots done, photos are not everything but you can make a better impression with them some times.
This was a quick retouch just to give you an idea.

But sorry
i'm only 14 and i'm stubborn
i don't like it as much
because my hair isnt like that. i don't want to make a false impression. This is what you get wiht me...i'm not guna change it.

Plus i do have school to think about too and i know its maybe not the best time to try and get somewhere in life. but its the time i chose.

ty for the advice, and i do know they look amatuerist, but that is becyase of the fact that i am.
it was my first shoot i have ever done in my life, and i am personally very proud of the photos.

sorry if you don't feel the same way,

Heather :]

The advice that you have gotten is good... If you ask people their opinion or put yourself out there, be prepared to hear things that you may not like. This business has a lot of rejection-- you'll get it from many in this industry. You must be prepared to take the negative as well as the positive comments.
Instead of paying for photos, you should look into TFP. This way you do not need your parents to pay anything at all. Also, your portfolio should show you in several different outfits and poses. (Just thought you should know.)
When you take pics for a magazine etc. They will do all sorts of editing. Some you will like, some you won't. But, it doesn't matter what you like-- it matters what the client wants and likes. You may look very different in some pictures.
Good luck and we'll see what happens! :)

:pleased:

I am sorry you took the advice that you had asked for so wrong, just to make clear my critique was to the photographs not to the model, I think some photographers and models in this site will agree that when you pay good money for your photos things like stray hair specially on your face an bad balance of light are not desirable.
Good luck to you anyway, I wish you all success you deserve.
Harim.

Remember what I said about youth in another post when a young lady was begging for people to give a young person a chance to gain some experience?

Recall my answer and suggestion? That there is no problem working with youth if they will do two near impossible things: 1) Shut up and Listen; and 2) Do as instructed.

Back talk, back talk, back talk. It just ruins the mood of a gig. And then when you get irritated and snap at the poor helpless youth, they pitch the attitude and nothing gets done until you mollify the brat.

Remember, people are paying good money to get you just how they want and need you. Not how you want to be.

"Plus i think i look younger in the edited photo. which i want to fully avoid."

Wow, what a statement to make. Models gain weight, lose weight, cut hair, trim nails, dress up, dress down to be exactly what is needed for a shoot. No one is going to tell a good client "I want to avoid looking younger" if that is what the gig calls for.

First hard lesson of modeling life, Heather: It is not about you...it is all about you.

Homework: I want a 500 word essay about what that phrase means to you, on my desk, by Friday.

HOVS...you have great talent as a retoucher!

Thanks Carib, ironically I thought that girl had something to go for, thats why even botter my *** to touch up that pic,
Thanks for the complement.

the hair on my face wasn't stray...its like that always, its my fringe.

plus i know about the several outfits, but i can only have 5 pcitures so i cnt show all of the outfits i had on the day of shoot.

and i do know about the disagree and agree situations with advice...but does that mean that i can not state my opinionon it?

To my understanding you can post as many pictures as you like from a bronze account. It is just that visitors and other free members cannot see more than five pictures. Paid levels can see more with Platinum being able to see all of them. So, post away!

And if that does not work, upload some pictures to the forum or your blog so we can see what you are talking about.

I have MUAs who can fix that fringe for you.

You still are not listening and learning, though. Enough with the excuses, ok?

Heather,
welcome. Yes you can gain a lot from this site, as lots of people with experience are willing to give up their precious time to answer your questions and provide critiques. If you get advice that you don't particularly like be careful not to offend the contributor as they will likely not bother helping you in the future. Politely thank them and chose not to take their advice if you feel it is not appropriate. Chances are they may have something to say in the future that will be helpful to you. We are a small but tight community and look forward to seeing grow and succeed.

It's always worth getting more done. It's like studying, the more you do the better you get. These are a good start but in a years time hopefully you will have progressed to the point that you will not even be considering these for your portfolio.

Mike

lol @ many ppl on here
