Andrea K...you like to double up. Try this one: What is a broken down rum factory?
[/quote]

really? i do?

hmmmm... i am feeling a little foolish. i love rum. i especially love rum factories. how can i not know this? how about another hint?

by the way... love the "foot soldier" joke!

you know what is even more sad? i studied latin! yet... my memory deceives me at this point in time on E Pluribus Unum. but, too honest to cheat.

Yay, Malcolm! Right on both counts!!!

Andromeda, DAHLIN, E Pluribus Unum in ENGLISH means "Out of many, One". It is already Latin! :D

The carpenter started with 17 nails in the wood. After hammering, 17 nails remain in the wood!

Nasty, huh? :P

Any takers for: What is a broken down rum factory?

Andrea wants a hint. Hmmm...maybe I will give one after I stop running around doing holiday rum shopping.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

"Andromeda, DAHLIN, E Pluribus Unum in ENGLISH means "Out of many, One". It is already Latin!"

Karl,

Andromeda already knows that, she's the one that told me what the English translation was. She was just reiterating that in her post. You should know her better than that. She was enlightening others who got in at the end of her post, because so much had been written and not everyone bothers to read the entire prior postings. Why was it necessary to point out what was thought to be someone's mistake, when in fact it wasn't. It is reiteration like they do in writing news articles, storytelling, or advertising. She learned that in college. Maybe I should go headhunting for everyone's mistakes or inaccuracies.:upset: Aren't you above that Karl? I know you were probably just kidding with her, but the problem is that those who are less astute take it serious and that opens the door to making condescending remarks. This is not respectful nor does it reflect Jurgita's community well.

Happy Holidays,
Dominic

once upon a time.

It's a very tricky question but I will try. I would say the answer is 7 nails. Why? Bec. 5 nails still sticking out and 2 of 4 still out. :cantlook:

Hmmm, Dominic. I'm gonna get you some Christmas Guava Berry Punch. Been fermenting since last December. Mmmm. Smack. Smack. 150 proof. You and I should let's raise a glass and toast Auld Lang Sang in a week. For now, let us solemnly work on the Christmas smash. :lips:

Sorry, Kathryn, the question was already answered. The answer is 17.

3 hints so far on the rum factory? You guys are going to kick yourself at the answer.

In the meantime, since the end of the year is coming up, let us do a straight geography/time quiz. Upon which nation does the sun never set. Explain. Not a trick question. And we're talking present, not the past.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

ooooohhhhhh!!!!!

the broken down rum factory....

is it a STILL STILL??????????

Mike Jones:

[Carib Goodies: ...]

I'd say there are 8 nails left..........1 in the middle.......and 8 on the right.

Actually the only answer is 17, as given above.

I see where you are coming from Mike, but It can't be conclusively argued for or against that the nails are evenly spaced - as such, you could have more towards one end, and simply turning the wood around would change the amount on the left or right there... so the only sense of "left" that can be inferred, is "remaining".

Now I have to answer the unanswered... haven't seen many tricky ones so far - assuming of course anyone understands Andromedian and Latin... LOL.

Lucia M.:

Just as the saying goes ...All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy...so am gonna post some puzzles or rather jokes...lets see who gets them right

* There were an electrician and a plumber waiting in line for admission to the International Home Show," One of them was the father of the other's son. How could this be possible?

*In Kenya , you cannot take a picture of a man with a wooden leg. Why not?

* Even if they are starving, natives living in the Arctic will never eat a penguin's egg. Why not?

These were easy, and have been answered.

Note to the first. Other answers could include the "couple" being father of said son and his GRANDfather... one could be the step father, or adoptive parent of the others son, leaving the other still as his father... etc...

Carib Goodies:

Ok, Lucia:

The other of the electrician and plumber is the son's mother.

This one is a very old Photographer's joke. Wooden legs do not take pictures. Camera's take pictures. Hence you cannot take a picture of a man with a wooden leg. You can take a picture of a man with a camera.

Penguins are native to the Southern Hemisphere from South America to Australia and the Antarctic Ice Shelf. The are not native to the north pole. (Although since there are Penguins at the zoos in Alaska if one got away and laid an egg, a starving Eskimo would jump all over it.)

Come, come, now, Lucia. I'm 43...I had these trick questions when I was 10, That's why I asked if you wanted me to answer. :saint: Can you bring me something fresh? Me, I am going to get a couple hours sleep, come back with a fresh head, and start making up some brain teasers for you. OK?

Meanwhile: What are we always looking forward to, planning for it to arrive but yet can never reach it?

What is free when it has knots but has no knots when all tied up?

An easy math problem: A carpenter has 17 nails sticking out of a piece of wood. He hammers eight all the way in and four only halfway in. How many nails are left?

New answers...

the first is not just tomorrow... but the future.

The second is a boat, yacht, schooner, etc...

I refered to the last allready. But heres something else... you could argue the amount of nails "left/remaining" is indeterminable, as he would most likely have MORE nails in his nail bag - being a carpenter. Therefore the answer is closer to "how long is a piece of string" (although this can simply be answered, as I have originally, with "from one end to the other")

Lucia M.:

:D....so u got 'em huh ...k nite nite...let me come up with new ones too:pleased:

...I'll answer ur first one....is the answer tommorrow;)

*What is one thing that all wise men, regardless of their religion or politics, agree is between heaven and earth?

* A clerk in the butcher shop is 5' 10" tall. What does he weigh?

*In what year did Christmas and New Year's fall in the same year?

All well answered.

Note to 3... Do new years and Xmas fall in the same year in China? They certainly don't observe Xmas, even if they are aware of it, but their "new year" falls some weeks later. Further more, there were many years before the birth of Christ when there was no Xmas... but indeed calenders and years ticking by...

Carib Goodies:

Yes, Lucia, the answer to the first one is "tomorrow". I kinda made that easy, huh? What about the other two? My answers to your next three:

The word "And"

"Meat"

Every year.

Come. come, Lucia! Challenge me!

Some more to crunch your collective minds on:

What does E Pluribus Unum mean in Latin?

What do you call an equine with a sore throat?

A midget, 12 inches tall, went to the Army recruiting office to sign up. When the Sergeant saw the new recruit, he smiled and said: "I have the perfect job for you." What military job did the recruit get?

These are all under control...

However apart from calling a sick equine a hoarse horse... you might want to call it "a vet" LOL.

Andrea K.:

ooooohhhhhh!!!!!

the broken down rum factory....

is it a STILL STILL??????????

Very good Andrea... I couldn't get that one.

Now... for the last riddle...

the sun never sets on which nation...

will it be something like "procraster-nation...", "hiber-nation..."certainly not "uri-nation... lol" I hope... Along this line of thought I could only see "Determination" as having an undying light.

lets see.... I mean, strictly speaking the sun doesn't "set" on any nations, but in the sense that it becomes unviewable to countries as it is indeed blocked by the earth as we spin around.

I feel baited to suggest Japan... as the land of the Rising Sun... but living in Tokyo I am only too aware that the sun does indeed set here also.

If you are refering to the polar summers and winters, of seemingly endless days and nights... well... eventually the sun even sets and rises there... and they aren't exactly nations.

I'm pushed to give up. I guess I lack the determination... or the patience. LOL.

Here's one for you now:

Q: What gets wetter, the more it dries?

probably you can google the answer... but no cheating.

Okay... I've since read that the Sun never sets on The USA, as with it's protectorates and territories, for instance Guam etc, there is always SOMEWHERE that has daylight.

Andrea K.:

ooooohhhhhh!!!!!

Wooo Hooo! Hooray, Andrea! Yuppy yeah. That is the correct answer. I owe you a bottle of vintage Cruzan Rum. Which flavor is your preference?

Correcto mundo! A boat's progress in the water is measured in knots. When docked and tied up it has no forward or reverse progress, hence it has no knots. For the smarty pants out there, when tied up the ropes have the knots, not the boat. :D

So if Andrea gets some Rum... do I get a yacht?

Whether the Chinese (non-Christian Chinese) observe Christmas, it still exists. My birthday still exists although you forgot to celebrate it. (I'll remember that.) But Christian Chinese do celebrate Christmas. Chinese is a nationality, not a religion.

No matter where the Chinese "traditional" New Year falls, it will still be in a year that Christmas is celebrated. Plus, the Chinese do use the same official Julien calendar we do, with the new year falling within the same 47 hour 59 minutes, 59 seconds as the rest of the world.

Calendars and years ticking by, yes, but with the exception of the Aztecs, Incas and Mayans the years were being tracked incorrectly. The modern calendar is only a couple hundred years old and refinements were made to it as late as 17 years ago. Heck, we still say a day is 24 hours although we know it isn't. Leap years also do not correct the modern calendar and every hundred years or so, time keepers just mark off a day you never even knew you missed.

Answer to the Q:.. perhaps 'flag' The British Empire for an award...Monarchy has leadership over many dispersed territories, making it such that the Sun can never set on its diverse colonies the same all at once!
So it is conclusively & exclusively noted , that the sun is always shining on at least one of its own geographic portions.
...IF the stipulation had not been mandated as contingent upon the term "Country" ...My state high-rise banner, displays a sunburst assimulative decoration.

To the Wet/Dry Q:
Any avid swimmer or good housekeeper knows this secret from subtle observation>
Easy as reading an email cast call from SNAP Mag...Sum of you know that.;)
A TOWEL...Doesn't even have to be from Donald Trump's Plaza in Atlantic City!;)

Romeo Devlin:

Okay... I've since read that the Sun never sets on The USA, as with it's protectorates and territories, for instance Guam etc, there is always SOMEWHERE that has daylight.

Good, Romeo. You almost over thought that one! :D It really was a straight geology question.

The answer used to be the British Empire. In 1898, the British Empire started having to share the title with the United States. In the ensuing time, the British Empire, subsequently the United Kingdom, started giving up its territories around the world.

I am not aware of the United States having any protectorates any more. It is a term no longer recognized by the United Nations and not recognized by the United States Constitution. Perhaps the Federated States of Micronesia might count as a protectorate although officially their government is formed as a Compact of Federal Relations with the United States. This is an ambiguous form of government created by Congress allowing them to govern their own affairs within the constraints of the United States Constitution. So, technically, the Federated States of Micronesia remains a Territory of the USA.

In the United States of America, the sun first rises in Guam. Guam is the eastern most part of the United States with the sun rising a full 13 hours before the "east coast" of the US. This results in another interesting peculiarity. The eastern most part of the US is closer to the Western most part than it is to the second most eastern part of the country. 12 hours after sunrise in Guam, the sun next rises over the Virgin Islands. An hour later it rises over such places as New York, Florida, Washington D.C., etc.

Two more geography questions then: 1) Name all of the Territories of the United States of America. 2) Name the most isolated islands in the world
