I took a walk this morning by a drainage canal. The local residents don't seem to care that it is half full of junk.
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

But they are curious about passersby:
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

There's always an old fellow or two just hanging out in the sun:
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

The aloof neighbor:
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

And your careful stalkers:
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

You can catch someone using a net:
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

An occasional greybeard...
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

...or the freakin' manic that scares 'em all away:
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

Classic. LOL...

Great pics Charles.

I love all of the crazy critters of the bushlands...

Don't know about that last one though - hehehe.

Ah nature....

That's one of the things lacking in Tokyo.

Here's my back yard back home... with Mum and a native that was stopping by...

Not a pet? Very colorful bird. Our parrot-like birds are fairly shy. All green and like orange groves and palms. I never got one on a shot yet.
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

Aw, poor Charles. Two kinds of birds: Swoop and poopers and sit and squatters. S&Ps are very accurate fly by high and low level bombers. SS are the infiltrators. Cuddle up next to you, gain your confidence and only then mess on your clothes.

Either type will sit and pose for you in exchange for a Big Mac.

I like nature shooting best and enjoy the challenge of sitting for hours, sweating up a swimming pool, swatting or ignoring insects just hoping for some fauna to wander by and just be itself in front of my lens. Tiring, time-consuming, but just one decent shot makes it all worthwhile.

But when the chips are down and a deadline is looming, to get birds to hold still I utilize nature's most successful evolutionary trick: man-made bribery. I have yet to meet a bird that will fly on by and ignore a chunk of quasi-meat from that monument to Yankee ingenuity.

Try it.

And you can borrow a couple of my visitors for a day or two.

This is Larry.

And this is Mo.

Yup. I name all animals that grace my yard Larry, Curly or Mo until they condescend to tell me their real names.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

This guy's name is Ack Ack. Nicknamed Aflac. He would look at me silently, pick clams. Come back by, stare some more, then snort Ack Ack at me and wander off again. Has to be his name because that is not the sound those birds make.

Until that day he was "Curly".

And this guy is Peggy.

Yup, this guy. He's a man and not shy. He worried the life out of me, though.

I was skipping stones on the ocean one day and he dived right into the path of one of my skips. Got pegged right in the side of his head. Sat floating on the waves for ten minutes with his head cocked to the side and mouth sagging open. I felt sick to my stomach.

Weird, you know, that I can easily grab a rifle or bow and hunt critters for food but an accidental injury wrecks me inside.

Well, after the ten minutes, he straightened his head up and took off into the sky. Continued fishing for the rest of the afternoon.

But his name stuck: Peggy.

Tomorrow I'll dig up the Green Cheeked Conoir shots. That guy's name is Squiggitts and he is the bird that convinced me that humans are not the only intelligent life on the planet.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

OK...here is Squiggitts.

Will not stay confined to a cage...will always find a way to open the doors. Sleeps under a mop. Coke is his favorite drink. Hates beer, loves rum. Prefers Wendy's to McDonalds. Pulls hinge pins from doors to enter rooms. Steals earrings and necklaces right off of ladies...but only if they are pretty. Uses curse words but only at appropriate moments. Can type on a computer and with pen in beak, signs his name. Picked out his name himself and tells people: "I'm Squiggitts". Refuses to call me Karl...calls me Squichywitch. Nickname is "4 by 4" because he is four inches and four ounces but thinks he is a truck. He runs t he print shop. Assists in book binding by stripping the spine off any book that does not meet his approval. Stands at the end of the collator and punches a hole in select finished book covers. Costumers have come to want the punched covers for themselves. We do not let him near the Baum folder or the presses while running.

Cute kid. Obtained at six weeks old. 10 years old now.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

But messy. Oh, yes...his favorite dessert...how could I forget...Jello gelatin. No other brand and do not dare give him diet Jello or diet Coke. He will bite and cuss you for hours after!

You inspire me, Karl. Here's a shot from the Jacksonville Zoo, shot two days ago:
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

We don't have any zoos in the Virgin Islands. It's catch 'em as they go!

or as they come...
