I've noticed that around my area the goth and emo trends have spread alot. Its turned from a goth hating area to an area were nearly very one wear black or skiny jeans. :dunno: :endecided: And really i'm just wondering if its not just in my area. Is it like that were you live to?

I tend to see a lot of that as well in Niagara Falls - so I'm assuming it everywhere - usually with the younger crowd;)

Yep its also spreading in here..
Love to Love

Yeah, there are a lot of them in my city.
I don't like theis style.

Yes, goth and emo trends are speading. It's not just in your area.

Apparently teen angst is taking over the world.

I don't just see teens in my area dressing like this, it's adults also. Some can pull it off, others...:cantlook: It's becoming a huge trend. It's either hated or love.:dunno:

thing is.. it shouldnt be a trend.. since when is it "cool" to be depressed and dress in black. Leave depression for the people who actually have it as a problem and dont pretend it just to get attention, not saying that all of them do..but some do. Aswell.. I'm all for not following trends so i guess my oppinion is biased. I think everyone should just be themselves. People should quit being followers and be leaders. Be yourself. Don't let others decide who you are.

I am seeing more and more in my area.....

:cantlook:

the "trend" isn't to be depressed, it is just the clothes and the music. most of those kids aren't depressed, they just like the style. however, there ARE a lot of kids who want attention and therefore pretend to be depressed, and they also happen to follow trends (wanting more attention) so it correlates. Tons of kids from my old high school dressed like that..more than half even...and they were all perfectly happy.

It's quite strange to see such an astonishment towards yet another youth trend in a supposedly cosmopolitan fashion forum :) 'the plague spreading! run for your lives! hide women and children!' :D

Some of my best friends are goth (I'm not though), and I can assure you that those are people just like you and me, and depression has nothing to do with it. It's just an outlook.

... people dress that way because it looks cool. Thats the worst thing I've ever heard. I wish people would learn to be more original instead of copying others. But then again i guess thats what makes everyone their own person.. some choose to copy others, while some choose to be true to themselves. Not saying this is the only "trend" i disagree with. I think it was ok that some person felt dressing this way reflected their personality.. but for others to just go and copy because it "looks cool".. is wrong. Just my oppinion.

you know there is no such thing as a goth anymore...none of the people you see walking around your towns are goths....a goth was a person from what is now Germany back in the 4th and 5th centuries and they were barbarians who invaded and conquered parts of the Roman Empire...nothing to do with depression...the current "goth" trend has grown from them and been warped soooo much its just not funny...about the only thing that still holds through is that typically a goth will dress all in black but even that is changing because I see them dressed with pink and yellow and bright orange and everything else....the word depression and goth do not have to go together either actually they shouldn't even be put in the same sentence unless describing one particular goth....when the goth trend started up again the mentality was to live life and die young before you got old and ugly....todays "goths"don't have a clue about that or have any desire to follow it or well at least 90% of them don't anyway there is always the few that are true goths although they are getting harder and harder to find...it really is becoming a fashion statement to be a goth nowadays and nothing more than that so the same as any fashion trend travels around the world this one is starting to and in another few years you'll see barely no goths around again....and yes I did ramble on unecessarily there and I do tend to do that so sorry:lol:

Why does everybody dress the way they do? Why do clothes exist and why are they so diverse throughout the world? Is that not because the majority of people want to look good? If yes, please explain how are goths different from other fashion victims. I think somebody should just grow up get out of the box :)

good views

my area is mainly going on punk and street tokyo fashion, its kinda cool because its different!:thumbup:lol

Im clased as a goth in my area which is why i brought this up cause origanally i was different to everyone else and then all of a sudden they started to dress like me. I find that there is a distinct line between the ones people call wannabes and the 'real' ones. I think that individuality is a big thing though and im starting to get fed up with everyone dressing like me so ive changed mi style a little buit to make it more mine and individual. I suspect tht sooner or later people will start addapting to.

the city nearest to me, is Belfast and is plastered in goths emos and punks. I like it! I'm one myself, and I adore the clothes we all wear they're all so different!:D

It seems to be a kinda small town thing in England! I live in a small town area of Yorkshire not disimilar to your own area (I know Emsworth and the havant area well) and it is quite a big thing around here also!

When we lived in the city I found that my son and his friends dressed in fashionable clothes according to their own choice more and character, but since moving to a small town area which is more village like the emphasis seems to be on the groups you speak of Lucy!

I guess it is not that different from the 1970s equivelants of Skinheads and Rockers
where both groups have their kinda signature looks, but can be creative within that!

(Whitby however is a completely different thing, as you probably know, it is kinda of the Goth central and where all the true goths head!)

My 14yo Son who should be in bed would like to add his comment if that is ok Lucy:

"The group of people that are school mainly see around now are goth's and emo's and some of my friends are in these groups.my friends say that they like the dress e.c.t because it reflects there personalities and there feelings.our small group friends is made up of a number of different people from all groups (emo's,moshers, goths, chavs and the so called gangsta's) a year ago we were all in one friendship group and nobody had a specific type of label but now most of us have labels (we are one of the few friendship groups that havent fallen out or sold out because of this) some situations are hard for us to deside on i.e. a chav walks up to the chav in our group and says why you hangin out with these watevers (me being polite lol) and because we have been friends along time they normaly stick up for us and say these are my friends (or somthing along these lines)anyway back to the point these groups are just teens mainly expressing there personality, feelings,if they admire a role model they would want to dress the same and act the same as him/her, one person even does it for attention at our schooland a few copy so they don't fall out with there friends.anyway thats my opinion on this
(but this is what happens at school)
