the moment i dont know if i will still have the job. This is simply because the
guy who is supposed to sign me on to the agency asked me out and i refused. I
kindly told him i was not gay and i would forget about his proposal to me, if
that is the way he works.
Fella, the thing is i am liberal when it comes to sexuality, but from the
reserach i have made, it's gradually becoming clear to me that alot of models
are gay? Is this how it works? I was recently told about the number of gay
celebrities in my country and was surprised, well hope to read your replies.
What do you guys think about being gay and the modelling industry? |

Ramona: Bad luck??? Interesting perspective.
Daniel: I suspect it may be a lot easier for a model to admit to being gay than,
say, a construction worker. I have also known male models to fake being gay
because in some circles you won;t get gigs unless you are. I will bet Rome in
the course of his extensive experience has run across this form of reverse
discrimination.
Male models have long been assumed by many to be gay because of the flamboyancy
of much of the work. Historically you can trace that perception back to early
European stage theater (think Shakespeare) when women were not allowed on stage
and men had to play female roles. Then there are the tights....
And do not discount jealousy by other males in labeling models gay. A buff,
chest-shaved hunk is going to make many guys feel inadequate. Hence the
perception that a male who pays attention to grooming himself must be gay.
Accusing the good looking, well-kept guy of being gay gets the sloppy,
pot-bellied, unkempt male of the hook.
And then, modeling is also a safe profession for gay men. They are not the
victims of 'construction accidents' by straight male workers.
Finally, it is not as acceptable for a man to dream of being a model as it is
for a woman. Even though in my experience men have fantasies of success based
upon their looks just as often as women do, society just accepts certain roles
as normal for females and others as normal for men.
You are in a profession where on first assumption, people will believe you are
gay. Just wink back when the harass you and they will leave you alone...quickly. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

Depends on the individual person. Gay relationship is not only happen in
modelling and fashion industry, but in others. A student could be a gay too. A
business man/woman could be. No offend to anyone. Just my point of view. And I
do still like a guy! |

this question is like the test you take in logic. are all oriental buddhists?
well, it's not that most models are gay, so gays become models. it's more so
that
fashion, designing, clothes, looking pretty, etc are more feminine traits than
the sterotypical male. you know?
i am heterosexual , nothing halfway, but yes, many of the ppl i've worked with
are either gay or liberal. but i also know of designers who are 100% hetero like
myself.
the world's most popular designers are mostly gay too, at this moment, so are
many musicians and other artists.
it's not a community that makes ppl gay or hetero, it just happens that the
fashion world attracts more gays and liberals, because it's , as i say, a
feminine traits.
society tells us that man are supposed to like boxing, wrestling , football,
smell dirtier, rougher, look hairier, talk filthier, act dumber, nastier,etc...
stereo-typical as always...
whereas fashion is all about looking pretty and lots of attention to beauty,
like tending to your rose garden, taking care of your skin,etc..
so it's no wonder, not too many Hulk Hogans chose to be in fashion designing or
be a makeup artist even fewer become photographers.. Goodness, they would need a
SLR the size of the old view camera for their hands
but we , the heterosexuals, are numerous too.
it's like any other way of life, we're of every nationality, religion, colour,
sexual preference,etc.
i do get asked out by gays, even at a non-fashioned environment. you shouldn't
feel insulted or anything like that. it's no different from a woman asking to be
your friend.
she may be gay too.
so NO, models are NOT supposed to be gay, they just so HAPPEN to BE so.
good question , though! you provide the character, and i will take care of the rest to capture your persona. |

ya Daniel, i suppose so, but society has conditioned so many ppl that it's
probably going to take a few generations to unthink that.
remember this is only happening now . in the old days of our great-grand &
grandparents' teenage years, men were suave too without coming off as gay...
(clark gable, richard burton, bobby darin, even going back to valentino), then
we came forward with less incidents (sean connery, george clooney).
how it suddenly became a gay thing to be like you say : smell nice and all
that...
Daniel, your guess is as good as mine.
perharps, it's the present generation's obssession of the extremes: you're
this
or you're not!
makes for a
good thesis to write, huh? you provide the character, and i will take care of the rest to capture your persona. |

 ID: 162309 Posts: 37 | Date: 2008-03-31 21:03 it's a pity we don't have a gay to discuss this. all we're getting here is
mostly from a hetero point of view.
perharps, if someone who is gay should find this forum, maybe then we will get a
better perspective of it.
it's a good forum Daniel you provide the character, and i will take care of the rest to capture your persona. |
