Best of luck to you.
@Cheri - I don't think sarcasm is the answer, we all need to start somewhere,
and in our own way.

Seems appropriate considering.
I made a friend request of Mariah wanting to keep an eye on her profile and see
where she was going. Figured that since she bragged about having two model
shoots and being in the modeling club that we would see some nifty images pop up
on her port.
Yet the additions seem to be awkward angle self portraits. So much for seeing
what the product of today's high school modeling clubs is.
Mariah, Cheri mentioned silver platter because your portfolio does not look like
you are putting serious effort into this yet. Modeling is work and being
discovered comes from putting a concerted effort behind advancing your
career.
You are of the right age to start pushing yourself into the business but there
is a huge amount of competition out there. Your portfolio does not yet reflect
the fact that you are seriously into this. Rather than go into what you need in
this post, can I refer you to the articles section of Jurgita?
I like your bold aggressiveness in jumping right out there and advertising for
work. You have had 57 views so far, but what have you shown these viewers? You
ask them to come take a look and consider hiring you, but when they find you,
50% of your images look like the typical teenager: scatterbrained, not serious,
and a waste of time to invest in. First impressions count. Many of those 57
viewers will not return to your port again.
Additionally, you have a scant portfolio and your official web address leads to
a blocked site. This further discourages people who may have been interested in
you. You cannot make people work to access you. Busy people will move on
elsewhere.
You are a pretty girl, but pretty girls are a dime a dozen. You need to bring
something to the table that says: "Wow! I must have her!" All it takes is a
little effort, asking us for advice and following that advice. Then you can buy
Cheri a silver platter.
PS: I am curious to know what is done in a High School Modeling Club these days.

some great suggestions. This advice is really helpful, especially for Mariah. I
guess that is the idea, support and guide.

That was a little uncalled for. That seems quite out of character for Sheryl. I
assume that this must have been Cheri. It very confusing when 2 people use the
same account.
I thought Jurgita was place where we welcome new models and do our best to
encourage them and give then guidance. I don't see any of those traits in this
sarcastic response. |

Mariah,
I would drop the polaroid and the horizontal head shot from your port and go
with the 3 others that are all from the same shoot. I could give a more detailed
critique if you want but to keep it short I think they are pretty good start.
Now you need some close up head shots with good crisp focus.
Keep shooting and practicing a variety of poses and expressions. Search the
internet and look at fashion magazines for examples and then try to copy or
recreate the same poses.

I responded to her via Email a short while ago, and then realized that what I
said to her applies to all the teen models on the site. My discussion was
regarding things that her high school modeling club could do to improve its
members when it occurred to me that all high schools have kids trying to learn
to photograph. So what's with all these models doing self portraits because they
cannot afford a studio shoot?
Well...here is what I wrote Mariah. I would love your perspective on my
suggestions.
______
"In your modeling club, what type of training and activities do you do? I assume
the basics like how to walk and stand, simple posing, make-up lessons and hair
care, skin care and beauty tips. Does your club ever do more proactive things
like invite industry professionals to donate an hour or two giving industry
tips? You could have an acting coach come in for an afternoon. Have a
professional photographer do a day of tips and coaching. A beauty consultant. A
scout. An Agency representative. You would be surprised how many industry
professional will not mind volunteering some time to a high school club. All you
have to do in return is pay attention, be respectful and print them a nice
"Thank You" certificate for their office wall.
And then photographs...I am amazed how many young, high school age prospective
models do not have even half decent pictures of themselves. They complain about
the cost. Yet, I have never come a cross a high school that did not have at
least a dozen kids trying to learn photography. Most high schools have
photography or journalism clubs and classes. Link your modeling club with these
aspiring photographers. You can shoot on lunch breaks or field trip on weekends.
You will gain modeling experience and portfolio images and your photographer
classmates will gain valuable knowledge about shooting human subjects.
I think it is a win-win."
