I hope you are aware that your posts are way too long for me to make a big
effort of reading them... Actually, in a case of YOUR posts it's really an
effort... Send me some coffee before you answer next time...
Basic? ). Basic had
its gold times a loooooooooong time ago... Currently, I'm writing mainly in Java
and Cold Fusion, if I need to write anything, that is really not often...
And remember I was grown with PC, considering it a natural thing...
Age has its privilages . Especially young age .
OK, Victoria:
I will talk in short, simple words just for you. I understand that becoming a
big girl with a PC can shorten the attention span. May I suggest continuing your
spat with Romeo? You two will be in short word wit heaven.
You mean scripting in Java and Fusion, right? I would be honestly
surprised if you knew a line of program code.
Call me simple...but the only way to not get a parking ticket is not to park in
'No Parking' zones. There is no babe at the car to talk a cop out of writing
it.
And thank you, but when I use an abbreviation, I write it out first. It would be
arrogant of me to assume everyone know the same abbreviations as I do. And it
has nothing to do with think someone is dumb. Different people learn different
things depending upon what they do and like and dislike. Is a heart surgeon dumb
because he never heard of SATA? Nope.
I would love to see a post by you that is constructive, not confrontational. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

I have seven external hard drives and two other computers linked into the Vista
system now. I started doing synchronized backups and reallocating files across
the system.
I am having Vista crash out on file copies from one hard drive to the next and
one machine to the next. It will begin the file transfers and after a few files
just start calculating space forever. It won't stop calculating. I am up to 9
days and 17 hours to move 8 gigabytes of files. Pressing cancel starts it
canceling forever. It won't stop. The only way to interrupt this ceaseless
calculating is through the Task Manager and the "End Now" button...which can
take several minutes to appear.
Come on! I need to access my files. What kind of nonsense is this? Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

ID: 182744 Posts: 1554 | Date: 2008-05-10 01:12 Huge news on my Vista problem.
And the idiots in tech support for both Vista and HP never mentioned it.
There is a known bug in Vista Home Premium (which was the only version available
locally when I switched over to Vista). There is a serious bug in their core
operating system discovered in December 2007 that corrupts data on files being
transfered to and from other hard drives and being browsed on a hard drive with
image browsers.
I must thank Charles on leading me down the path to discovery. He pointed me to
articles on similar problems with other versions of Vista and fixes for those
versions. Unfortunately, the fixes for those versions do not work on Vista Home
editions. And you cannot upgrade a Vista Home system to any of the other
versions of Vista. Apparently the hardware needed is different. So, the fixes he
pointed me to would not work on my machines. But Charle's insight did lead me to
the source of the problem. THANK YOU, CHARLES
WARNING TO ALL PHOTOGRAPHERS
There is now a class action lawsuit against Microsoft of which I am joining. It
alleges that Microsoft coerced companies into falsely claiming that the systems
they were selling were Vista compatible. Stories here:
Microsoft sued over Windows Vista
marketing
Microsoft class action suit over Vista
approved
But the key warning is this: Vista Home Premium corrupts data when more than one
hard drive is attached to the machine. This includes your backup
drive!Data will be corrupted on your back-up drive unknown to
you! You are going to be a sorry sight to your customers when you
find the entire photo shoot wiped out! (While Microsoft says that backups are
not affected, the truth is that if your system does automatic backups or
synchronization, the corrupted files will be silently backed
up, overwriting your good backup files. I have encountered this and disconnected
my RAID card as well as turned off my alternate synchronization manger. So now,
rather than having second by second back up security, every weekend I take a day
to manually transfer uncorrupted files via an XP lap top to the back up drive.
My risk is that I can now lose a full week of work if a hard drive
fails.)
To avoid this, I have been shooting all of my images in rapid fire mode. I have
been shooting half a dozen images of each scene so that I can get images that re
not corrupt since it seems that the corruption occurs randomly but usually three
to four images apart. Ask Charles...when he visited here he was expressing
wonderment as to why every picture I took was on rapid fire mode.
Another big problem is that it can corrupt photoshop documents after you save
them. To work around this I am now saving each photoshop file three times
inthree different places. I will do "pelican_dive.psd", "Pelican_dive_bak.psd"
and "Pelican_dive_bak2.psd". It is a lot of drive space used when you consider
that a single ad can be 100 or more megabytes but by hard lessons and late
nights spent rebuilding destroyed customer work, it must be done.
People using one hard drive are not affected. But whenever two are more are
gather in Vista's name, the bug will be with you, Bill Gates proclaimed.
I get from Tech Support that I am pushing Vista beyond its design specifications
by having seven hard drives and a network server plugged in. Uh huh. Well...I
never ever had that problem under XP, 2000, Win95 (as buggy as that was), NT4 or
3.1. So what gives? And, I specifically bought machines advertised and with spec
requirements to handle multimedia like photographs, audio and video. The
machines were advertised as "Perfect for Business Multimedia Solutions". Yet I
have exceeded the specs for Vista Home Premium which was pre-installed on all
the machines and the only version of Vista available.
So, I want to purchase upgrades to Vista Pro for each machine...an investment of
thousands. But, whoops! The machine is not properly designed to handle Vista
Home Premium and cannot be upgraded to any other version of Vista!
Oh, F___ Bill Gates, et al!

It's my understanding that many people are buying copies of XP and installing it
in their new computers.
That is exactly what I did.

stupidness that i never tried and even seen Vista - and i never will - expecting
the same chit again...or any other microsoft software away from win 2000
professional.
by date of win2000pro relesae SP4, from my point of view (or need) development
of win software has ended.
win2000pro with service pack 4 is all what i need from past and future of PC
technology. and yes in some cases win98SE for playing some older games i
love.
since software companies keeps messing stable programs, Im not interest in any
"new" releases 2 years from now already. so problems like this always makes me
smile.
i simply dont like problems |

ID: 182744 Posts: 1554 | Date: 2008-05-10 05:32 Well. Larry...it turns out that machines produced in late 2007 with Vista Home
Premium installed will perform like a two and a half legged circus dog if you
remove vista and try and load something else. The damn systems are too
interconnected with Vista, especially with the SATA support which XP cannot
handle.
Truthfully, I can see no practical benefit to me in using Vista over XP.
Unfortunately, I have only one XP system left...a Laptop going on four years
old. Not enough real cruching power for big photoshop applications.
Apparently Vistas major differences are how it handles security matters and how
it organizes files. Supposedly a better system of organizing and sharing
documents for big companies that previous windows. And no, it could not have
been done with a program...the way Vista handles multiple drives and makes them
act as an infinitely sized virtual folder needed direct access and control y the
operating system of extra hard drives and peripherals.
Interestingly enough, this is one of the big bragging and promotional points of
Vista Home Service and yet, out of the other corner of its mouth Microsoft
parses out BS about people pushing Vista Home Premium beyond its design
limitations. In other words, Microsoft, if you read the tome of their article,
is trying the make the VHE work as hard and efficiently as XP and Win2000/NT
do.
OK. I admit it! I pushed Vista unknowingly. It is my fault, Bill Gates, that
your software all over the world is destroying people's lives! Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

I absolutely agree!
As I said.. never tried Vista, but from my point of view its just a fancy screen
and completly unimportant and problematic content. Not worth of
production/buying at all.
Thx for posting this Carib anyway now im sure ill never install it 100% |

Whenever i post i try to answer the question that was asked and i don t do it
for my own purpose.
Know about Vista I don't really know much about computers but my brother brought
it, I have 3 computers at home and they all have vista about hard drives i don t
really know , but they re all connected to one internet connection. And i think
we have vista home premium but i m not sure. When I had xp it was great but
vista is far more better you can use more different things. I ve had it for
about 2 months i think.Kimberley |

Well, you are quite lucky, Kim. Or just in line with the statistical odds. The
problem is affecting 60 out of 1000 Vista Home users. A ratio small enough that
Microsoft downplayed it initially. What the ratio is showing in reality is that
very few home users have multiple hard drives in use.
Anyone doing market research for Windows updates may have been cognizant of the
fact that very few home users have need for extended services in their operating
system. The more services running, the greater the computer's eventual
vulnerability. And since most home users cannot protect their system without
very good automatic virus protection systems running, I believe that an internal
decision was made to simplify the windows interface and remove excess items that
most home users never use.
As is cited in the class action suit against Microsoft, the issue is not the
performance of Vista but rather the labeling of Vista Home Premium as Vista
since it is so radically different than the four other versions of Vista.
A big issue is the advertising on machines as Vista compatible. With even bigger
issue with me is I have a machine that advertises endless hard drive
connectivity right on the label stuck to the machine. Inside the machine,
though, is an operating system that faints whenever a strange hard drive says
hello. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |
