Actors introduce themselves with a photo. The picture must look like you. Lack
of pretension is important. Your attitude should be open and friendly and warmth
should radiate from your eyes. One very good photo is all you really need.
The photographer
Select the photographer as carefully as you would a surgeon. Interview as many
as you can before making a choice. In the interview see his portfolio and ask
yourself the following questions:
a) Does the lighting have a natural look or is it too dramatic?
b) Can you see the actor's features?
c) Does the skin tone seem realistic?
Headshots
(8x10″, Black & white)
Until recently, the "head-only" headshot was the standard. However, now the
format has become looser. More of the actor's body is been seen providing a
better idea of the performer's physique. Photos should be black and white. Only
redheads should do color headshots.
Clothes for photo-session
Wear something that you feel comfortable with.
NO to bright whites or black, to large buttons, busy prints, stripes and
everything that gets the attention anywhere but your face.
YES to pastels, earthly tones, blue denim, linen, silk.
Makeup & hair
Keep it simple. Take a professional makeup artist with you at the studio if you
feel you need one. Don't forget: naturalness is important. A good hair stylist,
will be able to advice about length and shaping. Tell him what kind of roles
your are promoting yourself for.
Printing a photo
Photos can be printed in a variety of papers. The semi-matte finish is popular
now. It has an attractive, friendly tone. You can have your name and telephone
