Now, here's an adjustment using the tools available in Photoshop CS3. This was
mostly in Curves, but could have been done with Levels and the shadow/highlight
tool. It is a quick and dirty fix, but many things can done, including lassoing
the face and even giving it a halo. I also used an amber photo filter to provide
a semi-toned look.
Of course everything is subjective and this is only a suggestion:
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going! If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!
the photoshopped version looks much more like a etching than a photograph. It
must the the high contrasts. Though I admit the original's figure is too dark
and is difficult to see the details.
I like the painting effect.
