First Step To Becoming A Professional Model

You have seen Charles, Mike and I pulling out our gray hairs trying to get models to improve their portfolio photos.

Our rants seem to fall on deaf ears for the most part.

So...here is one more argument your might want to consider in finding a way to get some decent professional quality shots done. (And no excuses like I do not know anyone with a camera. That is plain BS. Where there is a will, there is a way.)

The argument is this:
Europe, it can be said, is the proving ground for models. But the United States of America is the big money market. (Most humble apologies to France but :endecided:.)

In order for a model to gain entry to the United States to work as a model, our State Department requires proof that you are a professional model. There is no way you will break into the U.S. market and the big money with shoddy, low quality images posted.

So, help yourself if you want to go anywhere in this business. Clean up your portfolio act. Behave like a professional and present yourself to the world as the best you can be.

I guess your images are your resume. This is all the employers look at. If your images cannot demonstrate your abilty to model stuff, then how will you get that audition?

Jess

Let's face it. As long as this site is a free-for-all alternate meeting place for MySpace/FaceBook junkies, what we are seeing is what we are asking for.

Any suggestion that we set standards and entry requirements is ignored or rejected.

If I recall correctly, we don't get points as moderators for separating the wheat from the chaff, but from those we approve.

For my part, as a photographer, I don't care if it costs me points, I reject duplicates, poor quality photos, sideways photos, images that aren't categorized or labeled appropriately and I spend my emails sending notes to explain the problem to the submitters.

There are so many spurious profiles that should be eliminated completely before we even get to moderating, that it sickens me to the point of disinterest in bothering. But I've done this rant before.
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

Charles - do you approve pretty much everybody when they apply to the site?

I know a lot of modeling sites approve people that they really shouldn't! I have even read profiles that say they are there because they were sick of MySpace or whatever! It's an absolute joke!

Some people should really not be approved unless they have made an effort to take some professional looking pictures are are serious about it!

Well, Riely, I hear your point strong and clear. I would like to point out something, however, regarding amateur ports and this site.

Jurgita.com is a modeling magazine. It gives advice to people wanting to become models and also a chance to be seen that other sites might not give them.

This is where people learn This is where those who have learned can apply for gigs. This is where professionals hang out and network with those who win their favor.

Anyone can be seen here.

And some dreamer just throwing their web cam image up on the net might just be the next big face. One never knows.

My main grape is regarding those long-term members who hope against hope that their grainy self cam picture is going to attract attention. Perhaps it was the best they could do when they started here, but if one is on-sight for even just a week, they will learn from us how to get decent photos done without cost.

So then what is the excuse?

Bottom line is a port like Riely's is going to get a lot more attention than Suzy Self Cam's port. So, it is their choice whether they want the world to look at them or not.

They just won't be gaining entry to the U.S. and the paying gigs with crap.

Even as what Karl says is true, I reject virtually everyone in my moderation if they don't have a photo to show they are serious about 1. Modeling. 2.Photography. 3. etc--or everything else--if they just want to join the flirt zone, should't they have a picture? If they are a dancer, an actor, a designer or a hairstylist, shouldn't they have photos of their art? Producers and talent scouts better have some credits, too.

If they don't and they get in, it's because someone else approved them. I am the mean old man I seem to be.
If I haven't been there, I'm still planning on going!
If I haven't done it, I've still got time to try!

From now on 50 activity points will turn into 1 credit, so you may earn credits as easy as never before !!!

All models and photographers are able to moderate photos! We will save a lot of time for moderators this way. Please read the short instruction on how to moderate and earn points very quickly.
Also, models and photographers can moderate part of the profiles as well! This is a fast way to earn some action points and credits!
