How Do You Become A Model?

I have no experience and I never model before. I heard that you should join this site because it would help you out but I haven't seen anything happen yet.

I was wondering how would I get started and what I should do?

modelmayhem.com is also a good way to nagivate around

first steps is always of course
networking network network and trying to build up your portfolio :D

. try to get some TFCD shots or any sort of trades around your area before even paying for a photoshoot.

well first you should start to get attention on yourself (and upload some images lol). then you should browse some better portfolios and try to find smart photographer who might do images at least the same even better - show you the best way. then when someone asks for you (like media or agency) you should be fortcoming and relaible no matter fee and so on and repeat that several times - in order to get published of course, and 2 receive some public comments about yourself and your fizical appearance whats muuuuuch more important then any fee. it will give you answers can you be great model or not, or you just tried. it will give you slice of publicity and some answers to you and agencies.

then when (and if) phone start to ring oftenly you should find a manager who will know how you will earn, and if you are really good - to create a brand out of you.

but before all of that, getting into modeling etc., you should scatter well throughout your competition, magazines and videos and ask yourself one question: "can i get more attention as they do, or at least same attention as they do just by standing infornt of camera." and be very subjective and honest about that matter. if you pass over this question you might find yourself quite dissapointed troughout bulding modeling career.

agencies, websites and other parties (photographers, designers, publishers..) included in this business suffer most demanding standards today so ambitious models should fit into it fully by their personal appearance.

model mayhem is a good site im on that one its easier to navagate on that one than this one in my eyes. but im still trying to figure this out.. how do you get on finding an agency?
~Rach~

i am stile trying to find an agency in Idaho, any one no of some good ones, or any?:dunno:
:lips:

im still looking for an agency myself but I know that to get an agency you need to reach them yourself by example going on the agency section in this site and see the ones you like and e mail them your photos and they will eventually reply.
Kimberley :)

Actually, you should go see them. Introduce yourself and be a real live person. Not just a photo on a website or email. Call and set up an appointment to see if they are interested in new faces. You MUST pound the pavement. You will not be "Discovered" on the internet. I wish it were that simple. Very rarely does something like that happen.

What Cheri said!

Remember, your on-line portfolio is simply a tool in your arsenal. Your biggest gun always remains you. You in person is your best sales tool. You use your on-line profile as an always handy, readily available portfolio to point agencies and photographers to. It is a computerized world, and you want agencies to store your electronic images and information in their systems so that you come up in electronic searches. But your best advocate always remains appearing in flesh and blood.

I might take a bit of umbrage with Rachel's statement, though. Why would you want an agency you go to to be able to easily navigate a site and thus navigate away from your portfolio to other models that might suit the job better? Easy to navigate means easy to find your competition. YIKES!

Upgraded members can see more than five of your posted photos. And if you upgrade yourself, an agency not a member of this site can see those photos without buying in. Those non-upgraded members (you competition) will only have five of their posted images for an agency to see thus leaving the advantage in your court.

Put your thinking caps on and you will realize tha tthis site is very well thought out.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

Also try and search some local agencies you like and go and ask them what they think of you and remember to take some good photos with you.
Kimberley :)

Try local pageants and competitions too

It is really nice to be a model...I was model when I had 18 years, then I quit. I'm not sorry for quitting the modelling, but I remember as the most beautiful in my life....So, good luck girls
