hmmmm see the problem is you are a bit too small but don't worry high heels and poses can really make you bigger.....but hey you love who you are..:) I am too tall and I hate it so don't worry about it.....ow and if you love what you are doing...GO FOR IT....but becareful because out there in modelling are a lot of critic....I mean A LOT ....but don't take this as offensive...put your head up and be strong...:) :muscle:

good luck

Hi, Height is less of a problem if the print-ads are focussed on your upper body. I am not in a position to be of help as my assignments require tall models. Try cosmetic industry...that could be an oppurtunity.....on top of that you have sharp facial features. good luck

No prblm. Thanks for the quick response.
Just keep me in mind incase you have some other suitable assignments.

I fyou are ready you can do it, you are very preety but the thing is that there is a lot of competion as there are way to many models so you have to keep on trying till you reach your goal!
Gl:)
Kimberley :)

Height is not so much of a problem among Asian models, yet 5'1" is really short on the scale. Yet my daughter, and she is of East Indian descent is an inch shorter than you are and has been getting lucrative commercial modeling gigs throughout New England.

OK, aside from having a father who represents models, her success has been by targeting modeling situations suitable to her size, looks and talents. She also is quite gregarious, lobbies constantly and can flash you a smile with her eyes along that will make the most jaundiced agent pause and do a double take.

Command presence. If you cannot automatically have it because you are taller than the crowd, then you had better know how to make it work with your personality.

Can you make people stop and stare?

That is going to be your biggest challenge in furthering a modeling career. Can you make the consumer do a double take?

Your selection of availability seems right for a model of your stature. You have the beauty for face modeling. More than that I cannot judge since you have placed no full body images in your profile. Put a few in there and include a Polaroid series. Promoting the natural you may just help.

You also indicate that you have done some video. Why not post them to your portfolio here? Having multiple portfolios is good for reaching a broad audience, but making people jump from site to site...well, most people searching for a model do not have the time or patience to let multiple pages load. Usually, if a recruiter sees your port and pauses long enough to take an interest, then the recruiter will do a little background searching. But for your initial presentation, you want to summarize and give a strong hint of all of your potential at a glance.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

Thanks Carib Goodies... I'm also petite... But I really love modelling... :)

hello from halifax, canada.
i just voted LIKES / DISLIKE for 3 of your four poses in your portfolio.
the other one would get a NEUTRAL vote.

your facial features are outstanding. study the 2 photos which i voted LIKE
and compare them to the other one i DISLIKE.
note the texture of your skin shows too much on the one that got a bad grade:cry:
also, there is too much light on the rest of your shoulder,etc..:muscle:

remember put shadows where you don't want the eyes to go:cantlook:
use light to draw to your best features... ie. your eyes, your lips.:lips:
and if you use shading, try to even use shadows to lead the eyes to your best features.

notice how much wider your face is when too much light is given to it.:muscle:
also, i think you used a different focal length for the ones that made you "larger" (bigger):cantlook:
careful with what focal length lens you use. experiment, shoot through 35mm to 85 mm
(these are based on SLR film format), and study how each focal length makes you thinner, fatter, not so sweet, older, etc.

remember the wrong pose, wrong lens, wrong lighting,.can make you look older..
and we can also make you look even prettier with the right pose, right lighting, right lens.

you have at least started on the right foot:thumbup:
. you have good quality photos in your portfolio
. i would suggest keep the ones i chose LIKE they're excellent.
that's the type of portraits you should make more of.;)
and try if you can to replace the one i voted DISLIKE.

don't be discourage if i chose DSILIKE. it 's not to say you do not look good. you do.
but a bad pose or a bad portrait can do just as much harm than an excellent one to promote you in the best way.
better to have less photos but all great ones, then to put one extra that does not look too good.

thanks for allowing me to comment. i hope this helps.
and keep working at it.

last thing, you mentioned you're from india. so you must know the most famous actress in bollywood. i can't remember her name but she has the most incredible eyes and she knows how to use her poses to attract the camera. that's why she 's so well-known and every girl wants to look like her.

study how she lures your eyes to her. and work on doing the same thing when you're posing in front of the camera. practise in front of the mirror, so you know when it's successful.

the eyes must do the smiling, not just the teeth. remember that.

as i wrote in another forum, the great Cecil Beaton, (my idol in glamour photography and set lighting. he was in charge of all the glorious old Hollywood movies with the glamourous women). Beaton said over 50 years ago, "if you can't smile with your eyes, that's not a smile!"

keep it up! you're in the right direction ;)
you provide the character, and i will take care of the rest to capture your persona.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for all your comments, complements, & advice. I have seen your official website and must say that you have a great portfolio too!! Wonderful snaps.. you must be a very experienced photographer yourself!

This is a great help! Persis is an amatuer model and so far has not done any assignments. Just posed in front of Photographers for their portfolios and hers which gives her a learning experience and a comfort level with the camera and herself. The photographer himself is also learning with experience and is not a pro. So I guess time will give them both a finnesse they need.
All the details of the camera was so very usueful as Persis herself is intrerested in Photography and is also training to be a Graphics Animator. So the lighting aspect of your comments helps her to understand better. I will also pass this on to her Photographer, so that he learns in the process too. God Bless.. this was a real eye opener for us.
Just to inform you off the record.. that Persis is a hearing impaired girl from birth and has such great talents that I see within her and wanted her to grow to her full potential.
The Actress you are talking of I think is REKHA.. who was proclaimed in yesteryears as the Bollywood queen for her EYES.. and fantastic makeup which I believe she used to do herself. She still has an amazing grace and charm and can match any youngster on the screen for dancing. She still does some item no.s for the Bollywood movies but are not very frequent. I have informed Persis about this and she will study her before she goes for her next shoot.

All the best to you too and take care.

I don t think height is an issue for not modelling, we probably won't do runway but there are many other options.

[matt tan photography: ...]

wow Dilly, that's one of the nicest compliments i've recd this year. i am not just a photographer i teach that and other skills as well whenever i can find the time.
i get many compliments from my students and institutes i 've worked with but this is the first time a mother has written me such a long and lovely acknowledgement.
i feel humbled but sincerely honoured.
it's my pleasure to be of help. Persis sounds sincere and truly aspiring.

p.s.

as for your daughter being hearing impaired from birth... in 2004 i trained and worked in relay and STS . while there, i met a few consultants who were themselves hearing impaired. i didn't notice them being any worse off than those with hearing. in fact, i found some to be more capable than many with hearing.
we all know many great people have lost certain senses : beethoven, andrea bocelli, stevie wonder to name just 3. this has taught me that "when God closes one door, He always makes sure to open 2 windows".
Ma'am, i truly wish Persis all the best in her aspirations. if you truly know what you want, and work at achieving what you desire, the universe will conspire to get you what you desire. but you have to know what you want. (to quote the brazilian writer paulo coelho).
once again Dilly, and Persis, it's been my pleasure, and an honour .
you've certainly made my day! cheers.

sorry for the p.s. being longer than the body of my response.
as an associate once chided me, "that just not right! " :cantlook:
i know!!! but i am always one who readily breaks all rules if i can :muscle:
you provide the character, and i will take care of the rest to capture your persona.

Dilly, Persis,
lovely new main photo. good one, the softness is a good contrast to the other of the same outfit, and it's very sensual. nice placement of hair to the side, so as not to hide Persis lovely features. nice smile just the right curve.
excellent. you now have Persis in lovely warm colours, and in soft dark, and cool tones.
i just can't keep saying how much i love the latest . very classic. congrats to the photographer (suniel??)and persil .

:shh:now replace the second last one. too much light on the shoulder detracts from Persis face. careful with the light placement, it gave a bit of shadow casting on her skin, thus you see the "blemish". if the light placement is equal you won't see that "blemish".
if not, try soften the skin with post-processing , or a little foundation.
although i'm not overly excited over too much foundation, it makes the model's face pasty. i prefer correcting the lighting. it's only a bit off .

i think you could use a shorter lens, like the one Suniel used to shoot the other shots. this one that made Persis's face broader looks like a longer telefoto lens was used,
causing too much flattening of Persis face .
Careful, too long a telefoto lense can make even a skinny face "fatter", it makes every one look like James Earl Jones:lol:

i hope i explained it well, it's easier to do it then to explain it
HAVE A GLORIOUS SUNDAY!:)
you provide the character, and i will take care of the rest to capture your persona.
