Hey I got new photos made by one of the photographers, please check out my profile (the last 4), unfortunately I cant post all of them. What do you think about them? Should I put them to my book or they are not good enough? I would like to know opinion of many people in order to look at the photos more objective.

your pictures are beautiful
Kimberley :)

Why can't you post all of them? Is the photographer restricting you from using them for portfolio purposes?
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

nope, I can not post all of my pictures because my account status doesnt let me to.

try changing your pics frequently so we can see your other pics
Kimberley :)

That is interesting. I will PM you and see if we can get to the bottom of whatever problem you are having.

karl i think what iana is trying to mean is that beacause she has only bronze account she can only upload 5 pics on bronze account
Kimberley :)

yes thanks Kim :-). This is exactly what I meant. I cannot download more than 5 pics at my account, so I`ll try to change them.

Kim, a bronze account can post more than five pictures. Where did you get the idea that the limit is five?

Are you misinterpreting the fact that unregistered visitors and other bronze accounts can only view your first five images? If so, that is unrelated to an inability to upload pictures which is what I thought her complaint was. She should be able to upload more than five.

Upgraded accounts viewing a bronze can see more than five images if you post more than five.

There are quite a lot of bronze accounts on this site with dozens of images posted. This is just one example of a bronze model account with 38 photos posted

Basically, you really should be trying to reach the serious people, right? Most often these will have the upgraded memberships who can see everything you post.

What Iana can do if she is not going to upgrade soon (and she is listed as a pro, a small investment in her career of increased membership could not hurt) is rotate her images so that perhaps weekly a fresh set is in the first five. It is a lot of work to continually rotate. I believe that a small investment in upgraded membership would be a lot easier than continuously changing or rotating photos.

Hey! I thought it was 5 as well!

:dunno:

yes karl i was just saying that visitors or bronze account can only view your first 5 pics, but yes she can upload more.

and cheri you just upload more pics and they ll be viewable by upgraded members
Kimberley :)

Cheri D. Clark:

Hey! I thought it was 5 as well!

:dunno:

Try it Cheri. See what happens.

Well, back on subject. I had originally intended to give one of my rare critiques when I got distracted by the picture misunderstanding.

What I think about an image, standing on its own, would mean that I am commenting on its artistic merit and not its promotional value.

I believe Iana wants to know the promotional value of the images. Can they attract an individual to her portfolio and keep a potential client fascinated enough to want to see more?

That is one crucial element of a portfolio. Start out with a bang...a catch...a hook to grab the viewer. Your are battling a fish on a hook. Your lead image is your bait. Once hooked, you have to reel the fish in. You have to fight to keep this critter on the line who has other things to do rather than to be consumed by you.

A fish fights for his freedom as does the agent who has to scroll through page after page of wannabee models. You have to captivate the viewers long enough to persuade them that you are what they want and can do the jobs they have.

So, after you have grabbed attention with a big opening, you have to set the body of your story. Lead the viewer in, peak their curiosity, create a photographic storyline that will want to keep them in your portfolio, desiring more and more. You are going to build character into you photo story, create the friction and tension that keeps viewers engrossed. Your portfolio should ascend to a grand climax and stop. You leave a cliff hanger...leave the viewer wanting more.

Those who can afford more, will pay for more. Those are the big fish.

But always remember, sometimes you can fish forever and not catch anything. Sometimes it is the wrong bait that is used. Sometimes you are casting where there are no fish. And sometimes the fish just are not hungry. So you try another day after reviewing all of your fishing methods, asking for help, learning as much as you can and gaining experience.

Should you put them in your book or are they not good enough?
I am trying to get a feel of what you want to project, what you are trying to get across in your portfolio as either your specialty or your variety.

I like your variety. You pull off different looks and attitudes very well.

I am in debate as to whether your lead picture should be the front runner or not.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

It shows you as a professional business woman, great for cosmetics ads, fashion ads, perfume, etc. It is sophisticated.

But it shows you with an older look. Great, yes, but not comfortable lead picture for me.

Let us look at the merits of the picture in my next post. While that too is not my first choice for your lead photo, the one I like does not have the right dimensions to work as an avatar.

In this post I will show you what image I would lead with based upon my guess of the consumer market that is going to be the fastest growing in the next couple of years. This image portrays sheer beauty that has a classic and timeless appeal. There is so much said in that image and so much potential for a huge variety of print applications.

First, the brilliance and direction of the pose sucks you in. The reclining position with arms up is an invitation, an admittance of vulnerability that instantly attracts. The bright, soft cream/yellow of the outfit is warms and glows as if from an inner core. The viewer wants to know that inner core and searches the image more and more to indulge themselves.

That image could promote almost any luxury product. It captivates and is useful.

But, alas, it cannot start your story line here. I would give it the second spot in your portfolio...the place where you have it now.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

i agree with karl that first picture you have is really nice and that it can de used to promote almost any luxury product. it is really good even your facial expressions
Kimberley :)

Your first shot should be this image below.

Yes...part of your face is in shadow, technically a no-no...but sometimes you have to know when and how to break the rules.

Put that soft, Southern, nostalgic innocence first. It is cute. You look youthful. It is appealing to the coming generation of consumers. It is the stop and pause moment for a generation on a speeding technology super highway. It is lemonade on a warm, summer day. Time to stop and smells the roses. There is enough skin to tempt and a shyness in the bunching of the dress and the hiding of your torso that triggers curiosity and gentleness. Your face accepts the viewer's presence but does not let on what is next. We must look further to learn more.

The entrance of your yellow dressed image is a bit shocking and grits a little with the original story line set by the opening image, but cannot be helped with just five images to work with. I would have preferred to tease a little before revealing it. But as always, we work with what we have.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

Your jumping images are both good but in different ways. I wold not use both of them and the top hat, burlesque girl image below I think has to be thrown out the door. It is out of character with the two main looks your portfolio is showing. It interrupts the flow, disrupts the motion of your story. Distracts attention away from the rest of your port. Causes a frown.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

This is the jumping image to keep. Place it number three in your portfolio. It shows a sophisticated and restrained joie d'vivre. It is a moment of freedom that shows your grace and form. It has a tension, though, that needs to be released. The tension is in the same stiffness of your body that gives it grace. The tension compels us to study the image. After a moment we want to know what is next.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

Then you hit them with this. You ballerina diva look. The motion of your previous image carries into the interpretation of this image. The two contrasts show your versatility from one type of celebratory movement to another.

We have gone now in your portfolio from youthful innocence to cultured sophisticrat.
:cantlook: Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should

Now we close out your portfolio with the business woman look.

Deal or no deal? Let's talk business. I can be anything you want.

Would you like to see more?

*********

In another storyline scenario, this image certainly could be first but, for this portfolio, and since you have agency representation already, I am assuming your are seeking a more universal and expanded clientelle. Were I your agency, that is the shot I would use as a lead for the luxury market. For the general internet public , however, it has the danger of classing you immediately out of their league. Approach them with something softer first.

Have confidence in placing the business picture at the rear. Reel in your fish before you sell it.

wow, Thanks Karl for the deep analysis of my photos. It was very interesting :-) i`M IMPRESSED!!!

Maybe you are right that upgrated members can see all your photos, although when I was downloading my pics it was written that visitors could see only 5, that`s why I erased all the rest.

I posted 4 pics of one of the recent works, because these were the pictures which were bringing doubts in me, because they seem nice, but I think that it`s not really the top what I can do. As for the beginner the pictures looks good, but, I don`t know... for me they seem a bit incomplete. For this reason I wrote here in order to know the opinion of other people and to see how other seeing them, because usually I am never satisfied with my photos, so in order to be more objective wanted to find out how are they seen by the others.

So thanks a lot everybody :-)
