This is what was sent to me, so i contacted him on yahoo, and in a matter of
weeks, 3 separate checks were sent from FedEx for $813. My grams had a feeling
it might've been a scam so i checked my email and it said

$500 as part payment for your services and have the balance sent via Western
Union Money Transfer to the Make-Up Artist(MUA) that will be coming over to you
for the make-up, The money will be used for the cosmetics and other material she
will be needed for the shoot and also to be able to get her flight booked in
good time.On commencement of the shot, you will be paid the remaining $700 in
cash.
The company decided to pair you up with the Make-Up Artist(MUA) cause she is
very busy traveling around the states doing Make-Up for some top models as
regards their portfolio and presently she is not in her residential area where

No one sends real money to someone they do not know.
No one legitimate sends a model money to pay an MUA, Stylist, photographer, etc.
Those people are paid directly.
No one has a major campaign that requires an untested model to rush and shoot
within a week.
No one develops a major campaign...posters, billboards, catalogs, placement in
several countries, collaborations with multiple name brand companies, etc.
...and uses an amateur model that no one has ever met. Heck, Gucci et al use
world class advertising and modeling agencies for their products. It is pure
fantasy to believe that a multi national company would engage in blind
recruiting practices.
A recruitment pitch is a legal document. No one legitimate is going to produce
it in all caps, use broken English, make punctuation errors and have typos
within the pitch.
FedEx should be notified and given copies of the checks sent you. So should your
local police. The activity is illegal.
How did they get your name and address? Always establish a rapport with the
solicitor and always do a background check before ever, ever giving out personal
information.
When you receive an offer, you are always free to ask in Jurgita forums what
experience other members have had with an individual or company. Some of us here
are very experienced and have run across a lot of this garbage before.
Do not accept checks for payment from an individual unless it is a bank
certified check or money order. A bank can always be asked to verify funds in a
bank account before you deposit or cash a check. If a bank cannot verify the
check because it is international (rare these days) do not cash
the check but rather get back in touch with thissuer and ask for anothe form of
payment.
Western Union is very fraud proof. Western Union will not give you any money
unless they have already received cash from the sender.
Another thing a model can do is set up to accept credit card payments. Some
credit card companies are very strict about letting out merchant accounts but
there are a variety of internet services that will handle credit card
transactions for you albeit at a higher percentage charge than the banks. Pay
Pal is a thousand times better than they were a few years ago (when I absolutely
hated them) but today is a secure way of accepting payments that any individual
can set up.
Joseph..."today's people's minds"? I used to see this same exact pitch 26 years
ago when the pitches were done through the mail and by telephone. Sometimes,
believe it or not, in person. Scam artists would work the outskirts of movie
sets, TV shoots and photo shoots claiming to be a scout representing the company
shooting. Heck, they would even hand you a business card with logos on them like
Paramount, Universal, ABC, Playboy, etc. Some would whip out a check book right
there and then and write you a check in exchange for signing up right there and
then as a signing bonus. "But we need test shots. Just use a portion of the
money from the check, mail the money to our local representative and they will
set up the shoot." Bam...check bounces a couple weeks later, you are liable and
the supposed "scout" has disappeared into the wind.
15 years ago I was seeing these scams circulate around the internet and they
have not evolved one iota. P.T. Barnum said that there is a sucker born every
minute...people are on the internet at a younger and younger age...the old
tricks still work to snag the young and inexperienced. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should  |
