Thirty Years that is so amazing to hear, I had not realised e-mailling and such
could have gone back that far! Wow!
Ok HAPPY BIRTHDAY spammers if that seems right lol!
My friends Grandad was an original spammer prior to the medium of e-mail! He was
one of the original people to take advantage of all things post war and others
hopes for a better world! Back then he would advertise get rich schemes and how
to be successful like he, just send £1 (USA $2) and i will reaveal my secrets
to sucess! He would just take the money and send a note back saying 'Do What I
do'
Now in this more complex world we see much more complicated and advanced Spams n
Scams but you can see where they originated and how regardless of people being
more enlightened in life, the Spammer or Scammer will always try to find their
own way to take advantage or prey on the Aspirations of others!
So let us celebrate the birthday of such origins, but also remember to keep in
mind our need to avoid such things at all costs as our relatives did in times
gone by! |

Mail.
Actually, it is surprising that it took as long as 1978 for the first recorded
instance of spamming to occur. I first used email in 1976 at the University of
Florida and civilian use of the net was being allowed by the U.S. military at
least five years prior to that. I do not recall exactly when the military first
allowed civilians to use the net but it was sometime in the late 1960s. Five or
ten years is a heck of a long time for con artists to take to fnd an
opportunity.
The first email I received from a political candidate was in 1980 when Billy
Carter came to Gainesville promoting both Billy Beer and Jimmy Carter in the
same trip. I believe every existing account at the University got spammed on
that one.
Perhaps for the youngsters among us a little history about the internet. They do
seem to think that it is a modern invention. The internet, first called ARPANET,
was created as a military communications tool as a secure and redundant means of
communications among U.S. military assets worldwide in case other communications
methods were compromised. To this day, and to the chagrin of most nations,
control of the internet remains in U.S hands. Last year the battle raged in the
United Nations with countries submitting petitions to take control of the
internet away from the United States. The measure failed since, of course, the
U.S. has no intention of giving up its invention and sovereign property.
Be happy. Can you imagine the internet under Chinese control? How would you like
your email filtered, read and censored before delivery to you? Well...that might
be good...spam would be eliminated overnight. Send a spam, win a brand new tank
parked right in your living room. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

Well when you consider those options, having to put up with a little spam whilst
having freedom of speach is trivial really compared with those who have to
suffer such government scrutiny and restrictions.
Whilst on the subject of spam and not wishing to detract from what is a great
forum topic, has anyone actually seen the Spam (As in Chopped Pork & Ham)
website?
It is so so bad and so so not funny, that it is actually funny, if that makes
sense? |
