Outfits For Shoots...

Just wondering where models and stylist get their outfits for shoots from? I am constantly having to buy or make new outfits from my shoots, but it all adds up and I end up spending a small fortune...so any tips on where to get clothing from...? ebay and charity shops have been recommended, anywhere else?
I have new pics on my profile...

Fashion stylists normally have very good personal or working relationships with the major labels or designers. They are more concern about the "Look" rather than individual pieces. Hence, lookbooks/stylebooks from the designers/fashion labels serve as a easy guide for them to loan out/purchase clothes.

Having mentioned this, there is a new trend emerging where models are learning some basic sewing skills, fashion design techniques and modifying their exisiting outfits and giving them a new lease of life. It helps to recycle unwanted clothes, accessories, shoes and bags and definitely save some money for the models. I have seen a model going on to win a Fashion Design Contest recently with her modified oufits.

Online shops have emerged recently where cheap designer/quality clothes can be bought from those who gets their stuff from Chinese Manufacturers. A simple search through these sites coupled with some fashion styling skills can help you to save a lot of money too.

As for me, its a lot easier to work with a good fashion stylist during any production and shoots as he/she will be tasked to loan out/purchase the clothes necessary to achieve the overall mood and effect desired at the budget set.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Cheers,
Tuck

I say hit the thrift stores. I have gotten so much stuff there... it's amazing what you can find! You'll find vintage and prom dresses, cowboy outfits, 60's attire and much more! I stopped paying full price for things that I will only wear a handful of times. (bought a brand new UGGS beautiful book/model bag for the big 10 bucks!) Hope that helps a little!

Surely Bliss Magazine and the Lingerie Shoots did not want you to wear your own things?
That would have been weird lol!

Any of the Cover Mags that you quote surely gave you great indication of Clothing prior to shoots? You show an amazing almost life long list of successes within the few Months Modeling! I am amazed that one with such successes should need to ask such questions over clothing supply!

To Cheri/Sheryl:
Great realists attitude and good advice to those real Aspring Models trying to create looks on a budget

In addition I will add that obviously if Aspiring models do manage to eventually get Fashion Work then in a high percentage of cases the work is to promote that companies products, consequently you will be supplied with those products for the shoot! Otherwise why would they want you to be modeling for them? So do not worry over the purchase of expensive items to give your looks, just let your looks within your means sell you until those offers come along!

Well that is my slant on things anyway lol :dunno:

Heya, I did get wardrobe supplied for the Bliss shoot, all the geisha shoots, and the fashion shows.

The cover of confidence mag was actually a test shoot that I did and the photographer met the editor who wanted to use that set of images for the mag, so that wasn’t planned, you cant even see what Im wearing there and it wasn’t planned to go in there, just a nice bonus!! For the lingerie shoot too, that was a test shoot and the photographer was a student and sent it into his uni mag.

For everything else I have had to bring outfits for, I have been given some indication of what to bring, but its usually boring stuff like dark jumper, everyday stuff. Im looking for quite creative outfits, I do a lot TF* but don’t want to wear the same things over and over again and finding it pricey, a lot of my work actually comes from photographers who want their books updated and they don’t want to copy something I had already done…for example I have a long black dress in my portfolio that I have used a few times and some photographer have said they don’t want to shoot me in it anymore and I think I have got the best out of it!

I think the chances of a fashion company wanting me for their products are slim to none!! Just want outfits for when I do test shoots and portfolio updates for other photographers, I think the funkier the outfit the more it stands out and fingers crossed someone will notice it and want to use the image!

thats good! I did meet a stylist once who got a beautiful wedding dress for £30 from a charity shop, she was quite nifty on the sewing machine and took it in a bit as it was quite big and added some flowers on it, was really nice! I might give it a try, some one also mentioned car boot sales so might have to pop down to one someday soon!

Oh god yes Clapham, I know people from around there and West Norwood and Morden etc etc lol!

Well you got your links in :pleased: I don't quite get confidence magazine and ukmodelsclub? Are they just model listings of some sort? I notice you have Mike at Chillimodels listed as agent, is that not working for you?

Good luck with the scanner, you can of course upload pics in forum here, so your Marketing Week photos could be added here for free when you get the scans yes!

Got that thanx! Lewisham is a great place to find clothes cheaply as it is very multi-cultural and quite trendy, it also has the Market there!

Kensinton use to have a 3 day event at the county Hall once a year where all the Fashion Makers and Wholesalers would set up shop and sell off their ex-samples and concept ideas very very cheaply, check that out Nhuc!

The Clothing wholesalers in the Commercial Road ares of the East End may be able to help with samples or ex-samples or even have part-time reception modeling positions or such like, that is another angle worth considering.

From now on 50 activity points will turn into 1 credit, so you may earn credits as easy as never before !!!

All models and photographers are able to moderate photos! We will save a lot of time for moderators this way. Please read the short instruction on how to moderate and earn points very quickly.
Also, models and photographers can moderate part of the profiles as well! This is a fast way to earn some action points and credits!
