should a hairdresser/hairstylist tell a customer that hairstyle he/she wants won't look good on him/her? what if person really wants lets say change natural blond hair to black or shave his head, can a hairdresser refuse? who is right in situation like that? the hairdresser who sees the situation better? or the customer who should always by right cos she/he is the one buying the services? i have example to illustrate both cases, but i want to hear what other people think about this.

ok, i see no one understands what a heck i was talking about :D so i'll give an example.

my classmate used to have this long beautiful hair and by long i mean even longer than her elbows. the thing is she didn't really liked that hairstyle but her parents thought that was very girly etc. she decided to change the hairstyle when she was 15 and guess what? most of hairdressers refused to cut her hair appealing to it's beauty and so on. it took her some efforts to find the one to cut the hair and choose a new hairstyle for her. so who was right? the hairdressers who thought she should keep the hair because they found it fascinating? or the girl who wanted new hairstyle?

Wow you pick hard ones Vylune! :cantlook:

I think a good Hairdresser should advise on alternatives if put in that position, if they think a style may not suit they should first ask why the reason for the style. It could be the Customer has seen it elsewhere on someone else ie A Movie Star, but not thought through how it may actually look on themselves personally. :cantlook::doh:

So by offering alternatives the Hairdresser is opening up new avenues for the Customer and taking into account the Customers own particular look!:pleased:

At the end of the day the Customers request is paramount, as they are paying the money, so if the Hairdresser is not happy to do that, then they must tactfully use some form of excuse like 'We are unable to do that here' and if that is not possible then just get on and do it! :muscle:

However, if it was a basic Barbers sittuation with the Shaved Head etc as you mentioned, a simple 'Are You Certain' would probably be enough to ensure they are doing right, but then continueing as the customer requested.

Those are my thoughts on that one Vylune.

i think a hairdresser should tell you what they think but it s your final decision

once i had a discussion with hairdresser at salon. she complained there are people who asks for certain hairstyle but after it's done, they realize it doesn't fit them and then they say the hairdresser is to blame. so i'm kinda able to understand why hairdressers sometimes try to talk clients out of getting some hairstyle. on the other hand, when i want to change my hair style or hair color, the whole persuading thing really annoys me :(

i think a hairdresser should tell and so kool.they think but it s your final decision, when i want to change my hair style

I'll rather support the hair stylist. Theya re professional in that field, so they know whats best for people's face.

well that's not an unquestionable truth. see, hairdresser may know what's best for certain face shape or what's in this season, but they can't know what fits personality.

for example they promote some complex layered new trend hair style which only looks good after two hours of styling with hair cosmetics, hair blower, etc etc every morning. the hairstyle may look good on a person but what if she/he doesn't have time or wish to spent two hours for hair style every day? some of my friends had to visit hair salon once again and have new haircut because they been talked into getting trendy look.

so hairdressers are not always right even when think they are :dunno:

I wouldn't agree with that Vylune. Its like saying a doctor diagnose a sickness and prescribe medications and its possible the medications wouldn't work for the ailment.

Though i sometimes to trust them completely but i just beleive they are in the best position to give us idea on the kind of hair to wear and the one not to. Then after the option we can then decide if we'll go with it.

and what if patient is allergic to something or can't intake medications because of other reasons? :D however, it's not the matter of this discussion.

i don't believe in hairdresser being always right. i always get the same suggestion - get a fringe, although it makes my face look round like a bubble and i really hate when hair falls on my face. hairdresser can't know things like that unless she/he is your friend. but then again hiring your friend is a complicated situation that might end up with heated argument.
