To be or not be? If you are a photographer, are you for or against it? And why in both cases? It makes photo better or it makes photo unrealistic? Do you use it often and in what cases? What great (or useful) tricks do you know in Photoshop :)
Share them here, please ;)
I am still here

to be!!! how would i hide my 60 years old wrinkles without it?? :D:shocked:

Photoshop is a love-hate item for me. I hate to use it extensively, but a bit of plastic surgery on the image doesn't harm. Yet there are other issues with photoshop to be dealt with. There had been news agencies who photoshopped war pictures to make situations look worse than it actually is because it would sell. It's up to the individual and discretion how much of it to use or abuse.

I asked because I become a Photoshopper :) I don't need to hide wrinkles by now :D but I always use it to make photo bright, to add some light and so on. But I know some people extremely don't like photoshop work...
I am still here

Well, In real life,(so far, so good!) I don't have any wrinkles as of yet.
BUT remember, if anyone lives long enough...
( AND, hopefully they [ALL] WILL! ;) )...eventually, you get them.
I had a Great Grandmother who lived to be 102 years old...Time does show.
Unless, you want to be even more unnatural & have the devastating 'wear & tear' of plastic surgery & be a slave to the Dr.'s $$$--Wallet...LOL

Photoshop is just a choice: What matters most is creativity for whatever the project...
Photographer's like natural, HOWEVER, I get a lot of positive response from Pro Camera Men that almost live for the ART mixed with modelling.
Their Portfolios are 'X-tremely expansive...and some venture into Media.
Just my experience:)
Whether it be :lips::lips: OR :muscle::muscle:. . ."TRUE BLUE" IS The GENE that fits ALL;)

I like it. I use it everyday. Hey but it is a personal choice.

Larry

I use it extensively, but not to make other pictures appear from existing pictures. I make my pictures in camera...

Whether the darkroom is digital or chemical, most pro photogs have used their skill in this additional creative part of the process for a century or more.

If you want to punch up your blacks or midtones or simply increase or decrease the exposure by a stop or two, there is no shame in having control over your own image, it is yours .

Ansel Adams, who is one the most famous photographers that ever lived is equally famous for his skill in the darkroom and his dodging and burning techniques, as well as his zone system, and is legendary for helping photogs, both pro and amatuer, improve the balance and beauty of their pics to make them look MORE natural which the camera simply cannot do and is only part of the process.

The problem that seems to crop up, mostly in the minds of the non-creative, I find, is the question of fakery or [*Link removed*] goal of the photographer has usually been to make people or whatever the camera is aimed at look it's absolute best or coolest, hopefully to a point where people look at the picture and go "how'd they do that?", so whether it's a sunset that borders on the supernatural or impossibly beautiful skin texture, the camera rarely captures an image that is true to what your eye saw ( unless you're a genious with filters) and will need a tonal balance or color boost, so unless you are adding elements that simply did not exist in order to deceive, I say go nuts with photoshop, virtually all pros do.

Sorry about rambling on but I read technical tips specifically on photoshop, from about ten world class photographers every month, most of whom are National geographic veterans so it would seem apparent that the only ones who have not embraced new technology such as this ( and I have heard of a few) are usually older, large format shooters and god bless them for their gorgeous contributions .

The biggest problem is not photoshop, but bad [*Link removed*] is this ridiculous concept I keep encountering that a CAMERA will make someone a photgrapher and very little effort is made to learn about how it works, focussing on what you see in your minds eye and wringing this out of your ccd or film should be the goal and then when you get the image in your darkroom, digital or otherwise, you will need only minor adjustments.

If a choice needs to be made about photoshop or chemical darkroom, the ease and health factor of digital is a no-brainer, being in a chemical darkroom for hours inhaling chemicals while you brush on some chemical for an effect that can be easily attained in photoshop with a few clicks ,I 'd have to go with [*Link removed*] it's a choice of photoshop or no adjustments, well, good luck !

It's a good question that should be addressed, but remember, a photographer who uses tricks to deceive wil be found out eventually anyways and this should in no way reflect on the honest, skilled, photographer who is trying to create beautiful or thought provoking images through hard work and the right tools, one of which is photoshop.
Jean Ament, who was at one time the worlds oldest woman, when asked about aging, at 113 years old said " I have only ever had one wrinkle, the one I sit on ", Cheers to all

I'm not a big fan of people altering their images through the usage of computers, regardless if it makes them look better. I like natural beauty.

imagine a model who looks great and needs a perfect picture, but a little thing is not right in a picture, like hank of hair in not right place. would you fix that? new photo session is much more expensive than half of hour spent with photoshop. just an opinion ;)

But isn't that what gel is for? If the hair is that big of a nuisance she can always hold it back with something, could she not?

I don't mind Photoshop as a last resort kind of thing, but now they use in EVERY model picture these days seemingly.

There's certainly nothing more natural than a photo which is adjusted to match the real world properly, seeing as they haven't even come slightly close to creating a camera that can do what the human eye does.

If Ansel Adams was alive today, it's fairly certain he would be pleased to see the techniques he created in the chemical darkroom to create his timeless images, have crossed over seamlessly to the digital darkroom for the use of anyone who chooses.

I have dozens of filters to help the light be more "natural", but it sure is sweet to be able to tweak things to the exact way I want them to look, when and if it's needed.

A few people abusing this wonderful program for deceptve purposes only proves what is generally taken for granted, that there are dishonest people in the world.

Thanks for the interesting question Yana, your look is terrific and I think your photographer has done a great job!

Well I won't create another photograph out of a few images, photoshop is something I use with such caution that its so hard to notice what had been done. However I had seen some really botched up photoshop work that I can tell some enhancements are highly overdone or unnatural, like increasing bust size and lengthening the clevage on some women's images...

I agree with Billy- must use caution when using a photo-shop program- and also about noticing the enhancements - you don't want that. Me personally only use it when necessary - ;)

To be with precisious touch

Don't own it and will stay away from it. To tempting to ruin reality.
I use ACDsee 8 is color correct and change exposeures. Same things I would do in the lab.
As far as ""imagine a model who looks great and needs a perfect picture, but a little thing is not right in a picture, like hank of hair in not right place. would you fix that? new photo session is much more expensive than half of hour spent with photoshop. just an opinion ""

That's why we are Professionals and Hair and MUAs are on the shoots. Not a hair out of place..LOL

Nothing will accomplish more lab procedures in less time than photoshop, which is why it's the industry standard, hands down.

Pick up any photo magazine for photographers and you will find the worlds top pro's ( one's you've heard of , anyway ) giving tip's on how to use PS and how they get the same thing done in a seconds that used to take four hours in a lab and it looks better.

There is no one whose opinion is the end all and be all in the industry, that would be preposterous, use whatever you're used to that you're comfortable, but for myself I'll have to side with the big guys and try to learn from the knowledge and experience they want to share.

To be, definitely. I would, however, stress that it should be used to add something to a shoot rather than replace a good setup in the beginning. Examples are:

Getting the right background in an outdoor shoot :)

Models turning up with strap marks, eye shadow, tattoos then stating "but can't you just photoshop it"
***** Spring approaches and soon the fairies will awaken *****
