Well, i think there will always be a lot of scams, so first you have to learn how to find out is it a scam or not. You have to search for information yourself, use search engines and look for negative opinions about the agency. There was also an article in jurgita.com about how to identify is it scam agency or not. You wont have the ability to ask for help each time, so be prepared to avoid scams.

I'm still not sure what exactly the definition of a scam is. I am not an agency, probably in the traditional definition of the word, but do offer exposure for models. If they wanted to promote themselves on my site, and I don't charge a fee but I don't pay them either, I would think that is not a scam. But I am in a bit of a different boat than a traditional agency, so I would appreciate more defined "scam".

Hi there,
a few tips how to avoid scam model agencies :

- most agencies have their own website and their e-mail adress is similar to wepage adress (i.e. website www. model-agency. com and e-mail info@ model-agency. com) they don't use free e-mail accounts because they have their own. So if you get e-mail from yahoo or hotmail or any other free e-mail hoster it might be a scam.

- model agencies ask for portfolio which contains face photo, swim suit photo and one free photo. They mostly don't ask for nude photo. If they keep ask you for nude photos it is either a scam or not your kind of modeling.

- model agencies give you a initial agreement so you can describe a kind of modelling you do. It may be send to you by e-mail but it shoud be returned to agency by regular mail. If you hear that all documents can be singned when you arrive then it might be a scam.

This few tips shoud help you to avoid most of simple scam agencies but it still not cover all cases. The best way is to find yourself an agent who will take care of all checking work. I know that it costs but you have to admit that it is worth to pay for some security.
