Movie That Took You By Surprise

What movie or movies that you saw surprised you in a good or bad way?

For me, it was "Paris is Burning." Thought it was a foreign film (complete with sub-titles) about the fashion industry. There was a blown-up newspaper review in front of the theater with a black and white photo of what appeared to be a run-way fashion show. I didn't bother reading it and just saw the picture and made that mental connection of fashion show in Paris. I figure I would impress my date with a foreign film. Let's just say she was impressed, but not the way I thought.

It was a great movie. It just wasn't a foreign film. It was in English, with no sub-titles. It wasn't set in Paris. It was in NYC. It wasn't about the fashion industry. Not the main stream fashion industry at least. It wasn't even fiction. It was a documentary. Let's just say Madonna was inspired by the subject matter in this movie and made the song Vogue.

I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen the movie. IMDB it if you must know.

The Gladiator was great....a little bit tragic, but superfilm
:lips::saint::lips:

I was pleasantly suprised by Shaolin Soccer and Rashamon, both "foreign films" but easily understood, even in the original language.

i think Quantum of the Solace
:D

Lars and the Real Girl. when I saw the trailers, I thought it was going to be kinda dorky.. and I finally watched it with my sister and his best friend and they fell in love with the movie just as much as I did.
People can always doubt what you say, but they can't doubt what you do.

Feardotcom - Basically bcs I expected some C-movie trash bcs of the cover but was surprised by a kinda well made up story and good actors!

Hancock....i thought it was going to be good...but i wouldnt have watched it if i known it would have been about a drunk superhero

Pan's Labyrinth. I passed on it in a cinema but after seeing it on a TV I really wished I'd seen it in a cinema.

3:10 to Yuma. Not a huge fan of westerns but it escaped all the genre traps and was really good.
