For Digital Photo Editors:

And this means for those who actually edit digital images, so if you do not please leave off the comments.

I want to know what your favorite tools are when using Photoshop, and how do you use it?

I would also like it if someone asks a question to answer it within the forum.

i.e. using levels and colors (ctrl L, ctrl B) vs. curves (ctrl M) and why and how you choose that option.

another example is clone stamp vs healing brush

I want this to be only about Photoshop, no third party extensions.

I will also start off the one action I like to perform is an automatic softening filter. gives a nice soft glow to photos.

Duplicate the final layer, go to the filter menu, run high pass, invert the layer (ctrl + shift + I) go to the layers menu, change lighting to soft light, reduce layer exposure to approximately 30-40 %, erase around the eyes and mouth

Great info but should be under the "General Photography" topic.

i think the brush,, it is very useful no matter what
:D

I figured graphic design fits under the design topic, if someone disagrees, oh well, STBY

Lasso Tool........very useful.....when editing pics.......

Colour Range Select and replace too......
:) :D Avikal :D :)

Layers. Especially with the blending and transparency options plus layer masks. You can add subtle effects as well as go all out by setting transparency to a small number or duplicating the layer once, twice, or more times to intensify the effect. The layer masks will give you a quick way of isolating a sub-selection. Best use is to brighten up the teeth and the whites of the eyes by. Duplicate the layer and select the eyes and/or mouth. Make a layer mask and use your favorite brightening tool (dodge/burn, a blend option, etc...) on the layer. Change transparency if you want to blend it with the original. Not too much brightening or you'll end up with glowing eyes.

i love the clone stamp, spot healing brush tool and the filter effects.. i love photoshop, there are endless possibilities with it..

I thought if you are beautiful and have a great skin. I like natural pictures but hey, I'm no photographer. A photograher once enhanced my bust. I didn't figure what he did at first but later, I got the gist. I prefer natural pics. I think keeping it real makes it better. A beautiful skin, nice wears and a good photographer can work wonders.

I touch up a lot of scaned b/w film and both 35mm and 120 slides - so I use the clone stamp to touch up the little specs of dust that may transfer over.

Fummilayo - I agree I like my images to be as accurate as possible - I would never change a models eye colour or enhance your bust (I would have become a plastic surgeon and make more $$$) - but there are some minor touch ups I would make to shadows or as in my above post specs of dust.

The Smart Objects feature is also handy to have if you want to keep the number of layers and masks manageable while you are working on a complex project.

I do allot of Old Photo Retouching and Restoration work for people. Photoshop Smudge Tool helps to weave cracks and tears together for me. Hours of working closeup, back and forth, but the result is well worth it. Facial reconstruction is the hardest.

Hey Pat:D Digital eYe enhancement is used a lot--INTENSE COLORS just aren't found in everyday bulbous irises. Suppose contacts aren't compatible to the model. So, for the sake of the contemperary...Modern Times use it for marketability--There is an article for proof of the "pixel puting", especially used within the Artistic headshots & glamour or exotic makeup conceptual formats.
If it's just all about natural images.........That's becoming rarer in today's time & technology, since the digital photo age has taken over...If the image is what sells, then PERFECTION of Photoshopping & Airbrushing has left the Natural aspects of subjects to non-human species more often than not.
And who needs bust enhancement, when a gal can either lose or gain weight or get implants?
I can not say which tool is my favorite. I enjoy using whatever gets a final concept complete......It all depends on the conceived Image Projection. My work has landed Magazines & Advertizements.
The Dodge & Burn Tool can be handy for adding key lightening or minimal shade cast enhancement.:cool:
Whether it be :lips::lips: OR :muscle::muscle:. . ."TRUE BLUE" IS The GENE that fits ALL;)

I personally use Lightning effects. With a touch of the regular of clone, healing and patch repair tools.
