contract even gets sent out to me?
It sounds really dodgy and doing some investigatiion into them they do not seem
legit.
I had auditioned online via IMJ-online.. and wondering whats going on.. I am new
to this scene and I dont want to start of my missing something.
The deal sounds really good too but I dont understand.. They said they would
send the items of clothing for me myself to get the pictures off to send to them
that they can use for there catolouge.
they say i have 3 days to agree and send the money.. please help me!!
Any advice?

don't seem to add up the company in question is calling themselves "Worldwide"
and "Worldwide Catalog" along with a number of other names have people had
dealings with this company before? They do not have a registered domain of their
own but at the same time offer professional website design free as one of the
conditions of the contract which makes it seem very strange. I think this is one
to be wary over especially considering the rush that they are trying to put on
closing proceedings and the fact that their method of payment offers no security
what so ever if they do not honour the contract and the contract stipulates you
cannot claim your money back, and the upfront payment is repaid to you in a
serious of gauranteed monthly repayments regardless of comission earned. Another
few points that appear a bit suspect are
1. They are offering commission on the sale of items that you model. I don't
have much experience in this area but I do think it would be more standard
practice to offer payment for the pictures taken
2. They tell you that pictures with any digital camera will do. Does that mean
if you buy a 1mega pixel camera these pictures will be suitable for print?
3. They have listed 6 or 7 different opportunities you will be receiving all
paying high levels of commission (up to 50% on retail sales)
Personally on first glance and at the begining it sounded like a very good offer
but without knowing people who have successfully pursued this I would be very
cautious.
I stress that I AM NOTsaying that this company is a scam
I am simply stating the facts that the way they represent themselves raises a
number of questions, although do believe that there is a high chance this
company could be perfectly ligamate, but when payment upfront for their services
is required I also believe it is essential to have references from people who
have worked with them, to state they can provide what they claim. We Don't Take Risks to Escape Life!!

I know myself its really hard to get anything with my height and I dont want to
miss any opportunity, and im going on that basis I thought that the model were
paid.
I dont want to sound full of myself or such and I in the end wont mind paying if
its worth it but i just dont want to be exploited Howdy.I'm a 18 year old half asian from Ireland who really would love to get with an agency who can get her exposure or anything please look at my profile and get back to me |

spend some money for yourself on compcards and maybe another one or two items.
You'll know best what kind of work you can do, so if someone offers you work or
opportunities at a cost, then your alarm bells would be going off. |

to pay them, then pay a photograper and a studio.. thats what set off bells.
she was also quite rude and told me to forget about it because of basically
asking to many questions..
is this what its always gonna be like? Howdy.I'm a 18 year old half asian from Ireland who really would love to get with an agency who can get her exposure or anything please look at my profile and get back to me |

| Date: 2007-03-13 21:53 I don't even have to look at the contract to know any upfront costs are a RED
FLAG. From what I've heard, the reason agencies tend to tell models to pay
upfront costs before they'll sign is that's where the agencies make their
money....aka they won't get you enough work for them to make much off thier
commission. Either that, or they're not planning on finding you any work at all,
and it's just a scam.
You should definitely research the agency if you are still interested in them.
There is a possibility they are a legit agency, and they will get you work, but
I'd approach them with caution and knowledge about who they are and how they
compare with other agencies. Good luck! |

| Date: 2007-03-13 21:56 Oh, now that I read your last reply (sorry, jumped ahead of myself with that
last comment), that's definitely a scam. And it won't always be like that. Many
reputable agencies will not seek you out, because they have enough models trying
to seek them out. You'll probably have to do some work to find a good agency in
your area and get signed with them, but if they truely want to represent you,
they probably won't ask you to pay them, they'll help get you jobs that will pay
YOU. And they'll probably be a little nicer to you than the scam non-agency :-)
Again, good luck, hun!! |

| Date: 2007-03-14 07:48 Hi Cindy,
I think Simon is right on the money, and in fact was probably too kind. It is a
scam. And for everyone else, there are quite a few like this out there. They
offer you a blind contract, send you clothing (Which usually fits in a brothel,
not a fashion magazine) and then tell you take pictures of yourself in it and
send it to them. The photos are then sent to various online "Amateur" sites for
everyone to see. They also end up in personal collections. The work runs from
lingerie to fetish and will pay you NOTHING except a headache.
And yes, I have known several ladies that have been duped by this. One of them
is a Bowrider for Hot Boat now, and complains about this every time we talk!!

I realise this is an old post and I'm sure that you've received the right advise
above but I just thought I'd indorse it as well. We've never charged a model for
anything, not even lunch! If you are being asked for cash just walk away. |

ID: 185837 Posts: 336 | Date: 2007-04-11 05:40 The problem is some of the scammers will talk the talk very well and can be
convincing. They often lead you down a long path before springing the con.
The best way to think about it is:
* An Agency takes a slice of your payment for jobs
* For an Agency to make money they must find you work
* If an Agency believes they can market you they will invest a small amount
(initial shoots, etc) as they know they will be able to make lots more from you
in the long run
* If an Agency makes money from you joining, why bother trying to find work?
* If an Agency doesn't plan to find you jobs, why pay for initial costs as they
are no longer an investment
That logic is fairly robust
Don't feel stupid though. You were right to query. A *large* number of models
have been taken in by this scam or another. Often with younger models they
target the parents directly. At least you had the initiative to ask and were
part of a community who could support you ***** Spring approaches and soon the fairies will awaken ***** |
