Five Bucks?
You are going to use more than $5 in make up for a shoot.
Wear it for one day? How about for less than one hour. Often make up changes
during the course of a shoot. Even if it does not, it has to be refreshed,
touched-up and altered for things like shadowing, details, contrast, etc. as
lighting and/or camera positions change throughout the shoot. Not to mention
when the model changes outfits, or the hair stylist makes a quick adjustment or
the model sneezes and covers his/her mouth or forgets not to touch and
scratches.
Does the $5 charge take care of you for staying on-set all day?
Does the $5 cover the cost of your transportation and fuel?
Does the $5 cover the cost of using things like lipstick, lip gloss, mascara,
ect. on [b]only one/[b] person per item? Some state laws prohibit using
those items on more than one person. The mouth...the dirtiest part of the human
body. Mascara...there is a tiny parasite that eats nothing but mascara. Using
mascara on more than one person risks spreading that parasite to others. Every
medical association I know frowns upon the use of these items on multiple
persons.
But of course you already know that. You had to know it when you passed your
certifying exam and got your license to become a cosmetologist. That is...I am
assuming you are certified and licensed since you are advertising for pay. And,
certainly, have your health certificate if you are in a state that requires one
to practice cosmetology.
Besides, I think you want some insurance and/or liability waivers in place just
in case someone has an allergic reaction to any of the make up applied or
accidentally gets jabbed in the eye with an eye-liner pencil or something.
Interning and TFP/TFCDing your services is one thing. Doing it commercially,
that requires having the proper papers in order for the state in which you
reside. I do not know of anyone who could make a profitable business doing
makeup for $5.
KARL
I have to agree that the health risk of shared makeup has always been an
issue.
Besides one NEVER sees ANTM using shared makeup! They are always given the
ability to race for their own cosmetic choices in various contest testings or
have a MUA available for application, when such is decided for type of shoot
dictated in advance.
I guess if someone is going to do the equivalent of a lemonade stand deal...
At LEAST they had darn well better charge enough to make it a trade for
service:
Meaning in this instance the beginner cosmetic artist does the application/s for
practice, but the recipient/s are the live demo mannequins, who either formulate
a split cost effective fair wash of services rendered, or bring their own makeup
assortment and no one pays a thing......It does take a license to operate on
other people for $$$$...
It can't be avoided.
OH, & $5.00 won't even get 'em a good cup of coffee in a tall container..What if
some1 was thirsty, gad 'Zoo keys' forbiddeth!!...Ok, just for kicks, but your
point of commute doth raiseth an eyebrow's tremor..I guess there won't be many
customers, unless every1 lives directly nearby!
Your post was very informative, Karibbean See, glad you saw..The issue was a
terrific way to turn this into a brief educatory delivery...Thanks for showing
the newbies makeup/modeling hand in face politics 101!> |
