law to be labeled lager or ale, and contains 5 to 6% alcohol. When most of the
alcohol is removed from an ale, it is called "near beer", & has a content of
alcohol of 1 half of a percent.
Since Ale ferments rapidly, it is referred to as a "top - fermented" beer. It
has A HIGHER ALCOHOL content, & is heartier & darker than Lager types.]
NOTE:"> ALL BEERS can be DEFINED as either ALE or LAGER>
Differences occur in the brewing technique used, like variances in the yeast
used & temperature of the fermentation process.
Interesting little byte:.. is that AMERICA has been said to have a 90% portion
of all malt beverages being produced as LAGER BEER.
Lager is a beer that tends to ferment more slowly & at colder temperatures than
ale.
This is due to the yeast settling to the bottom of the tank, which gives it a
nickname of "bottom - fermented" beer--Yeah, if you indulge, *U* could
metaphorically say some 'think' like: you're sipping the bottom of the barrel..
Also, Lager beer is aged under refrigeration for several months. The German term
"lagern" means "to store" or "storehouse."
Pilsner beer is a light Lager beer with a STRONG FLAVOR OF HOPS. It originated
in Pilsen, a Czech Republic city, around 1877. Being a golden & delicate Lager,
it was a drastic switch from the dark, sweet beers that were common at that
time. Pilsner, at one point, has been the most widely copied beer & gained a
spot in the world's most popular beer type.
So if I had my choice of selection, I'm more open to explore what flavor would
fit the occasion. What about you? Would you stick to just one type of brew
classification, or go with the liquid flow of the mood or mode? Also, what's on
your menu for coinciding with the choice of beer? |
