I have to be somewhere at a specific point with a theater. |

| Date: 2007-04-16 06:41 I prefer... both! You can't really compare I think, one is [usually] live and
the other's filmed and edited... In theatre, there's only one chance to get it
right, while in cinema you have several tries and then they pick the best
one.
I think on the whole it's much harder to be successful in theatre, you have no
second chances once you're on stage, and you alone are responsible for making
the audience connect with your character. No cameramen to shoot you from your
best side, no lighting technician to emphasise your expression till it's
perfect, no digital effects to enhance anything you do - it's just you. [What a
power trip that is ]
I seem to be very much in favour of theatre huh? Well, what does cinema have
going for it? The end product, the movie, is in its most perfect state -
no-one's going to skip lines or fall over unless you're watching the blooper
reel. You don't have to contend with bad acting [we hope] because an actor isn't
feeling well and can't perform properly, or was cast in the completely wrong
role because s/he knew the producer [ok, it does still happen in cinema, but not
as often as in theatre].
They're both entertainment, they have their own technique and style, and they
cater to generally different audiences. It's like comparing a lemon and a
grapefruit, they're both bitter and sour, but they're very very different. |

find Theatre to be so much more rewarding because it has a character to it
unattainable through film, though it seems to be a dying art, but film actually
acknowledges the existence of their crew.
However, I certainly enjoy plays that are boarderline film and vice versa. |
