can match the pitch of your voice to the pitch of the music (only like 1/10,000
are tone deaf). Also, learning to be relaxed and supporting your breath are key
as well. Having talent helps too but you can overcome any deficiencies of talent by working hard
and being confident in yourself and not give a crap what other people think. For
me, singing in public is one of the most frightening things to do, and if you
hear me do it you would agree, but I forced myself to take singing lessons and
now am not so bad. But to answer your question, learning to be a good singer
won't happen suddenly, opera singers have to learn how to sing well and most
don't reach their pinacle until they have been practicing/developing their voice
for over a decade.  |

gradeschool, i always dreamed about of being a singer. and i did it! i became a
member of a live band when i was 21. it was hard though, thought i know
everything, the backing vocals, micing and dynamics. then i realized, i can do
better than these. so i practiced, listen to professional singers, record my own
songs and listen to it. discipline is the no.1 key.
and that was it, through practice and experience, i started to sing in a
sequencer band ( 2-3 piece band), in some prestigeous hotels in different
countries. |

for one person then another.
To me, it's hard to understand how one can be tone deaf, and one who says they
"can't" sing.
Things like that just don't register in my head. To me they do not make sense.
Singing for me, is as natural and embedded as breathing and blinking.Everything I've done, and all that I have yet to do, is only to forget the meaning of your name. |

 ID: 182744 Posts: 1442 | Date: 2007-05-23 16:57 Most people can be trained to carry a tune, learn timing, learn to breathe
correctly and understand intonation and inflection. Many languages are musical
in nature, Chinese being the largest, and if a person cannot inflect or intone
notes correctly, their words cannot easily be understood or carry the right
meaning. So, musical ability is as inherent in human beings as is the ability to
run.
This does not mean one can sing to professional standards. As with anything,
some people do it better than others. Some people run very fast as a result of
nature, training or talent. To sing at a professional level, there has to be
some luck of nature, a lot of training and talent. Talent not just for picking
up and carrying a tune easily, but also talent to sway people and talent to
convey and provoke emotions. One also needs to have stamina. Sometimes
incredible stamina. And don't forget courage and confidence. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

Practising, practising and practising and you'll be able to sing good.
Everyone can sing, but if everyone sounded good--
Their would be a worldwide choir-- |

| Date: 2007-09-18 07:31 You can learn to sing as long as you practice. But it will really help if you
have the talent, because you can learn easily. And there are people who are born
singers (they can already sing very well even without formal training but will
improve more if given a formal training). Even if you have the talent, you still
need training. And having a good quality voice is a plus! |

| Date: 2007-09-18 20:45 I think it is like cooking! the greatest cooks/chefs have a love for food and
because of that they develop a great feel and wish to attain and achieve the
best!
If you have as others have said, have a love of music and an ear for music and
always wish to sing then yes voice training is the vehicle for you to develop
and enhance your singing!
Go for it! we need more singing in this world!

1: You have no feeling/talent in music:
a) You'll never compose anything;
b) You must copy what songwritters tell you to sing;
c) You'll sing allways the same way in every show;
d) Your voice will sound good but tasteless (Vibratos and other techniques not
well applied)
etc.
2: You have talent but not the theory/practise;
a) Noone will properly understand what you sing (accent and pronunciation);
b) You will sing with diferent volumes in wrong places;
c) You won't breath well so the metric will be squared and not free;
d) You will go out of tune many times, because you will be tired, and the show
can't last long, as well as when you're older your voice won't last long either.
etc.
So yeah, after thinking of it for a second, Talent & Practise are needed to
succeed.
Or!, If you just wanna be in music for money, go on and "sing" Rap. You don't
need talent or practise for that, I think the only requisite is to consume drugs
(I didn't say this, read foward).

hey you need to have ' an ear for music' if you go for rap! i mean the person
needs to have strong feeling of rhythm. |

 ID: 194304 Posts: 68 | Date: 2007-12-19 21:00 I just want to make a comment about older voices not lasting as long during a
show. Don't even go there. Have you seen the Rolling Stones in concert? Mick
Jagger, at 64, can sing for an entire show and sound better than guys half his
age. Listen to him, he sounds as good as he ever has. Steven Tyler, the lead
singer for Aerosmith, is 59 years young and still screamin out those notes as
impresively as he ever has. Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Madonna, Diana Ross,
Paul McCartney, Elton John, and the list goes on and on and on and on.... I've
watched experienced older singers sing circles around younger singers and there
are some awesome young singers out there. Tekhanei and I were having a
conversation about this subject and I made a point to her that her voice sounds
stronger and fuller than I've ever heard it. It's crisp and endouring. Like a
fine wine it gets better with age. And I've heard some of these singers do long
sessions without a break and without cracking. So your point of view on this
subject is not validated in my opinion. Hang out with a few more older singers
and enjoy what you learn.
