If it doesn't exist then where did the name come from? ;) If I'm not mistaken [and I could well be!] it refers to models who are below 5"6', but I could be wrong. There's an article about different types of modelling, it might be in there, and you can try looking it up on Wikipedia :)

If maybe they were comparing it to the high fashion runway modelling, and the money earned from it, then I suppose it might possibly be called a scam, but it is real.

They are the short models. Many agencies use them in tv ads.

No Shaminy petite modelling isint a scam.. not from what iv seen and heard at least..
i dont see why it would be a scam..
But maybe petite models might be prayed on my some scam agencies and the likes because its really hard when your not tall to get some places..
Ill say to be careful, specially when contacted with one asking for money

I think its more just alot of the scam agencies tend to prey on petite models.
I know i were contacted by a commercial one,
i guess its just best to be very careful being a petite model

There is no section of modelling that is going to be anymore a scam than others...you will always come across scam agencies and photographers and you just need to be careful, and more careful is some areas than others...just follow one simple rule of thumb...if you feel something ain't right ask people on here...everybody is nice and helpful so you should be able to get some advice...and if something still doesn't feel right then walk awy because at the end of the day theres no point doing a job if your uncomfortable doing it because that will show in the pictures
