a scant few are starring roles for that irresistibly charming, fabulously
talented actor around whom directors craft top movies. To get your
star on the Walk of Fame, you need plenty of luck and talent. Don't
invest in those Revo sunglasses yet--years of hard work lie ahead.
Instructions
STEP 1: Start early. Try out for parts in school plays,
community theater, anything that gives you stage time.
STEP 2: Take acting lessons from an accredited local theater
company or university, or a professional actor's studio.
STEP 3: Attend one of the country's top notch drama and
performing arts programs including those u have always seeing in your locat
TV.....we seems so far and kinda envy wat we see on the screen but believe me, u
only need a step to be seen and
STEP 4: Audition for school films, indies and low-budget films.
Go to [*Link removed*] to explore your options. Expect constant rejection:
Perseverance and resilience are your greatest allies.
STEP 5: Join the Screen Actors Guild like ( [*Link removed*] ),
the labor union from which major movies hire their acting talent. You can't
become a SAG member until you land a role, and you can't be cast in a film until
you become a SAG member, a catch-22 that many film careers have foundered on. In
order to break the stalemate, you need to "know" somebody who will help you get
a speaking role of just one word. Or, take advantage of SAG's recently
introduced points system ( [*Link removed*] ). Work as an extra and attend
sanctioned events to build up enough points to qualify for membership. Or, take
your chances and audition at a cattle call-- casting directors are always
looking for new talent.
STEP 6: Move to the city, like in my contry, lagos is the best
option, in United states, New York or Los Angeles and get an agent. He or she
gets information about auditions for roles, either directly from casting
directors and producers or from "the breakdowns," a daily faxed list of roles
being cast that is only available to agents, managers and union members. It's
brutally tough to get an agent if you're not a SAG member, and you might have to
make due with a manager until you get a break.
STEP 7: Look good. This isn't necessary for every role, but the
better you look, the more buzz you'll get. In fact, if you look good enough, you
can skip all the other steps.
STEP 8: Choose your films carefully. It may be impossible to
predict a hit--in fact Hollywood is littered with stories of actors tuning down
a role that turned out to be a sensation--but pick roles (and directors) that
will further the development of your craft.
Overall Tips & Warnings
Work on your singing ability to open up new roles and expand your vocal skills.
If you had to make a choice between being really gifted and really driven,
choose drive. Hard work will get you farther than talent any day (but having
talent helps!).
SAG membership can be expensive, with initiation fees of almost $1,200 and
annual dues based your earnings.
Assemble a portfolio with professional head shots and descriptions of your roles
and training. See 180 Become a Model for more tips. Make sure your headshot
reflects the image you want to portray and the roles you're looking for.
Don't be a prima donna. If you're difficult to work with, you won't get
call-backs. |

Kinda nice of him to bring these tips to people's attention although plagiarism
is a no-no.
Guys, it is OK to do research and report your findings, but have multiple
sources, phrase things in your own words and cite your sources when you quote. Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

sure my college professors told me that while in school...

Being an elective, if I caught someone plagiarizing, it was an automatic 'F' and
a boot from the class. Plagiarism is exactly the same as stealing. And there is
absolutely no way that anyone can accidentally plagiarize. Premeditated
is what it is.
Oh...but staying on topic.
Find out if your state is a 'right-to-work' state. Those are states that do not
recognize guild rates for hiring actors. Typically movie companies will film
crowd scenes or parts that require numerous extras in those states to save
money. For instance, the Virgin Islands remains a right-to-work state both to
attract movie companies and to give locals a chance at exposure. The casting
calls are public and open to all. One may get as little as $25 for a day of
filming but the chances of rejection are low, you may get to brush shoulders
with a major star, and you have a film credit to your name which can be applied
toward Screen Actors Guild membership.
So, give right-to-work castings a shot. Your goal is first to gain experience
and second to network and try to get noticed. (Without making a royal pain of
yourself.) Have faith that the universe will unfold as it should |

"movie extras". It is a long day without pay-- generally. But you really get to
experience the hands on that happens during a movie shoot. I plan to do a couple
this summer. There are websites that will actually email you when there is an
upcoming movie in your area.. |
