region tends to lead developemental work in NYC fashion. It also is the clear
leader in European fashion as everything shown in Paris Spring and Fall stemd
from Milan design work.
What is interesting is that even the everyday person in Milan is very fashion
conscience. Much more so than in the US> I was there a couple of weeks ago,
and you still see it even in taxi drivers and office clerks. This innate sense
of style that permeates the populace. |

Hey Dario,
As I read your question--what you are asking and what the question is asking is
two different issues. No problem though!
One: How many agree that Milan is the most important fashion city in the
world?
Two: What is your city of preference between New York and Milan? Why? Reason?
Three: Can you compare New York to Milan; or, Milan to New York as far as who's
more important?
I think what you're asking is #3. Here goes: It all depends as to what are the
qualifers of the most important city in fashion? Exposure. Growth. Model.
Stylist. Designer. I think you see my point.
Putting it all together--on the one hand you know the quote: "If I can make it
there, I can make it anywhere...it's up to you New York, New York." There cannot
be another place that is more important ~FINANCIALLY~ than New York. Simply
stated: You want to make money? One must be accepted in New York to make big
money.
Cutting edge fashion, glamour, respect, classy? No one could ever argue that
Milan is not the best in all of these categories. I agree with many of the
earlier posters vis-a-vie Milan: Far more European and that's what North America
wants and needs! Also, the blend of cultures e.g., Paris, London, and all of
Germany!
Actually I think they are quite different and comparing the two is difficult.
Personally, I love Milan. But, I am from New York by way of Marina del Rey,
California. Imagine me in Milan my first time!

| Date: 2007-07-23 11:26 I grew up in NYC but what can I see from FTV and magazines is Milan is at the
cutting edge of fashion as well as Paris. New Yorkers are definetely
trendsetters and leaders in fashion but Milan seems to be more risque and at the
height of ultra-fashion. I also lived in Paris for a few months but it seems to
be more innovative and experimental where Milan is more stylish and daring. As a
New Yorker though, you always think it is the center of everything including
fashion. The world of fashion is so immense, it might be difficult to generalize
a winner. |

remain Number 1 when it comes to glamore and the spot light.
For instance if two new aspiring models were sent to the two locations
respectively the one in Milan may get more jobs but the one in New York would
become a superstar with half the job the one in Milan got.
Well i guess thats just the way it is
