Originally a roofer from West Mofford, NJ, Peter de Vries has done virtually every major campaign that Armani has launched in recent years - Giorgio Armani, Armani Exchange, Emporio Armani, Emporio Armani Underwear, Armani sunglasses, and the most recent accomplishment in 2003 spring summer campaign for Armani Jeans. Not to mention the requisite Abercrombie & Fitch campaign and those for Structure and Dockers among others, it adds to an extraordinarily illustrious and lucrative career.
He has become one of the industrys strongest males. His name is synonymous with the Armani name, and he is the foundation built for Armani mens division. GQ, Vogue, Stuff, Out and Maxim have all featured his face in their pages, and photographers like Ellen von Unwerth, David LaChapelle, Bruce Weber, Tony Duran, Richard Phibbs and Aldo Fallai have been eager to capture his handsome face in their lens.
Peter grew up in West Mofford, NJ a small country town. He played a lot of sports in his childhood. His's only boy among his siblings with three sisters, two older and one younger. his older sisters used to pick on him and put berets in his hair, but that didn't prevent Peter from growing into a real man. Once he grew bigger, they had to lay off.
Peter went to West Milford High in Mofford. While he was there, he was less than a stellar student, and didn't get to play school sports because of poor grades. The only sport that he participted was wrestling in his freshman year. Peter joined the team only because he thought it would be WWF-style. During those teenage years, he also worked on construction, including framing, roofing, and sheetrock.
He was discover on his way into a club one night in New York. Nathalie (his present agent at Q Models) stopped him, asked him some questions, and introduced him to the model agency later on. Peter first casting was casted for an editorial, Surface Magazine. Simultaneous excitement and nervous feelings were described as the first experience, and he was not easy about the fact that he had to wear makeup for photo shoots.
Peter is humble about his looks. He thinks that he is not the best-looking guy in the world, but he is not going to second-guess people who like his look. On the other hand, Peter does believe in versatility in his looks, that theyre capable of representing many different feelings, being a different icon.
In his spare time, Peter enjoys riding motocross, playing basketball, and working out. The whole modeling thing has been a totally great experience; offtered him an opportunity to expand his horizon to be a more cultured and well-rounded person, not mentioning the financial motives. When asked what he wants to do after his modeling career, Peter wants to go back to school, possibly real estate development, maybe even acting in LA.
